That would be downgrading imo, since you currently have a triple core CPU. If you want a little more speed, overclocking may be a better solution. What motherboard do you have? Strange that it is limited limited to a 5600+:?

Downgrade? No. Interms of number of cores, yes. If he upgrades to the 5600+ he will see a significant performance boost. a lot of games dont support triple or quads that well yet. just a few number do. Also not many multitask that heavily enough to make a dual core feel a loss of performance. Even if he did overclock he has a name brand pc, which wouldnt give him any good results. OT go for the 5600+ i believe it was $60 on newegg. will be worth that price.

Also another thing andyroo08 when you make suggestions might want to do a bit of research first. just because a cpu has more cores does not mean its faster 2.1GHZ x 3 does NOT mean its a 6.6GHz VS 5600 + 2.8Ghz x 2 = 5.6Ghz

well, it all depends on what you are doing. It all depends on what your doing. personally I wouldn't look at getting a 5600+. I would try to get a kuma 7750 or 7850, as both perform better than the 5600+ or the tri-core, and is just a little bit more expensive then the 5600+.

I just realized that he was mentioning he had a CPU that is socket AM2+ the 8450. while the 5600+ is a AM2 yes i would deffinately recheck what CPUs are supported by your motherboard and look for a 7850 it isnt expensive and will give a boost in performance especially gaming.

Apparently the limit is 89 watt for dual core and 95 for tri/quad. link, but im wondering if that info is outdated. I want to get a 7750, I wonder if anyone has got that to work with my mobo...

edit: do you guys think a 6000+ would work? It should according to its specs. I can also get a 5200+ pretty cheap, seems like even that would be a 20% increase in most games.

From what I have heard with a aftermarket cooler you can overclock that processor to 3.0ghz easy.
