Just build a new PC yesterday

AMD FX 6100

ASUS M5A99X Evo

8 Gb of Ram (running at 1600)

1TB HDD

GTX 560 TI

650W PSU

But after reading some reviews for bulldozer i am having doubt if I should have went for Intel, I got the CPU cheap for $140. came home and OCed it to 4.2 on stock cooling. seems way faster than my old PC (i3 540 OCed to 4.3ghz, 4g Ram, GTX 470), both in games and in OS. but the only thing about my CPU is it has a bug which would not let me play SHOGUN 2, (reboot as soon as I launch the game even at clock frequncy) . Should just go for an sandy bridge i3 instead? i5 cpu/mobo are alil over my budget.

Return that piece of crap CPU and get a 1090t, 1075t, 960t or a 955 and a decent CPU cooler.

Why did you get rid of your older PC? the 560TI dosnt perform as good as a gtx 470 and your CPU Performs worse than a Phenom 2 X6 (6 core as well) Heck the 8 core bulldozer has a hard time competing with the P2X6

Well a FX 6100 is an upgrade from your i3, but going from a GTX 470 to GTX 560ti isnt much of a upgrade...

well lets just say something unexpected happened to my last rig, I had to buy everything again, mouse, keyboard, monitor ect.. and the way hdd are priced right now just didnt leave me alot of budget for everything else. as good as my old gtx 470 was, i hated the way evga cards are enclosured, the fan makes a really loud noise when the card is under full load. I think im gonna trade the cpu in for a P2x6, but is my am3 plus board backward compatible? and also I only have a 650w PSU.

A Phenom x6 will work just fine in your motherboard , but it would be almost pointless going back to a P2 X6 when you have a FX 6100,(if you already have one) in most games they are about equal but with newer games the 6100 does better. And when games and apps start to become more heavily threaded the Bulldozer will shine.

Don't worry about swapping now. The 6100 is fine.

well its not that big of an upgrade from your i3... saving a sandy bridge was a better choice.

Wrong 6 core> a dual core

A Phenom 2 X4 with apps and games that can use quads correctly out pace the i3 2100 even though the i3 core per clock for clock is much faster then Phenom 2 , and the TC had a i3 540 a 1156 based cpu slower then a i3 2100

exactly. Sure is a bit overpriced and not the performer we were hoped from AMD's bulldozer but since you already got it it makes no sense going back to a dual core ( besides since you are using AM3+ mobo you will be able to upgrade to a future AMD cpu if you want to)

But there aren't that many games that really take advantage of more than two cores, and even in the ones that do the i3-2100 is so much faster than Phenom II core-for-core it's still very much competitive. At this point neither is a particularly appealing option (i3 is going to get bit in the ass by lack of cores sooner or later, Phenom II is just plain old), but you could make the argument i3 is a bit better now and has a better upgrade path -- SNB is a known quantity and Ivy will only improve on things, while Piledriver is a big question mark.

All that said, I wouldn't go through the hassle of returning the FX 6100 and mobo for only modest gains in performance and maybe a better upgrade path.

i wish i could punch amd in the face sometimes or at least kick them in the jewells. They wasted 4 years of time, hyped this garbage right up to the effing end even though they knew it was bad At the same time they made information on it so scarce to build up hype, but now that we can look back, it was probably due to it sucking so bad. In the end AMD incompetence just screws over the customer, since intel doesn't have to care about dropping their prices. Heck intel just released another $1000 cpu, thanks to AMD sucking that much

AMD has nothing to do with Intel selling a $1000 CPU -- the 3960X is a top-of-the-line pure-workstation CPU (it's a top-of-the-line SNB Xeon with two cores disabled), not a consumer part; it would be that price no matter what AMD did with Bulldozer (if anything you would have seen AMD's prices shoot up, just like the old Athlon 64 days when the FX-60 was going for $1000+).

I hope far more of them do soon.
