This just came into my email box and didn't see a thread about it yet so...

September 25th, 3 p.m. Eastern Standard Time, from Hawaii it looks like AMD is planning to release a few details on it's next gen (presumably going to be called it's 9xxx series).

I wonder if the late September / early October hardware release will be true.  Guess we'll find out in the next few weeks or so.

Except there is no uncle in AMD's case.

Well their hardware isn't garbage. I mean my 7950 3gb card beat out most if not all of its direct competition from nvidia......

Just their (AMD) software is not nearly on the same level as nvidia.

I haven't had a problem with my 7950's yet. I know there were issues before, but they've come a long way.  I'll keep my crossfire config going for awhile, but I have to admit I'm looking forward to see what's next in their hardware department.

it looks like most of your issues are with crossfire and linux.  only a fraction of a fraction even bother with multi gpu setups, even bother with it, so comment, but ur gripes only apply to a very small minority

I deleted the post cause i don't want a crap storm, but it's just evidence nvidia just has better drivers all around in everything.

Their laptop hybrid graphics problem is a very common issue

Not actually having an AMD card might have something to do with that...

I'm -not- a fan of AMD but I am a fan of Eyefinity. I've seen a lot of problems with the drivers over the years, including:

  • Crashing CCC
  • CCC that won't launch after updating drivers, requiring a rip and remove script to clean out old AMD driver crap and then a clean install
  • Settings Profile hotkeys that stop working
  • Crossfire microstuttering that's been a problem for YEARS and is only now getting fixed
  • Eyefinity profiles that go nuts if you switch off of them using presets instead of manually disabling and re-enabling the group every time

again...bitching about multigpu setups, something I can't comment on since I never did it before in my life and don't plan to either.  When I get a gpu I usually get the strongest or 2nd strongest card out.  Then I sell the old one a few months before and buy the strongest card of the new gen.  I guess you can call me a gpu renter instead of an owner.

meh, you can say that without proof and there is no way for me to verify it as I don't have a multi gpu setup and probably never will.  Ive only had a single card setup and with my experience there hasn't been any big issues.  I used to own an AMD hybrid,  the e-350, it played starcraft 2 sub 20 fps, so yeah it wasn't even strong enough to run the game, nevermind drivers.

How about cheapskate?

I'm not "bitching" about multi-GPU setups, I'm identifying known issues with AMD drivers (some of which happen to be related to multi-GPU setups). That was, after all, the topic of conversation.

Nobody asked about your buying habits.

Here is Anand's live blog of the non-NDA part of the event.

True Audio- Fully Programmable Audio Engine.
UHD/4k- Panasonic
Some limited details of lineup,
For R9 290x, +6bil transistors, +5TFlops, +300GB/s bandwidth, +4bil tri/sec, double geometry performance.
Bunch of partnerships with different studios/IHVs showing off their games with AMD tech.
Maingear loves R9 series.
Overly long StarCitizen demo but running around in hangar was pushing 18m polys.
Raptr- Consolidating games/friends lists/apps to one place. Also will identify your system specs and config games depending on your requirements based on other users performance, cloud based. Also provides game record/stream ability.
Frosbite/BF4 - Game changer = Mantle GCN low level API. Allows for lower overhead, better use of CPU/GPU, 9x the draw calls.

Check the benchmark thread. Easiest way to see what people are running in their rigs, and how they are doing in benchmarks.
