damn, from the specs it looks like the 7950 is going to demolish the 580 gtx, nevermind the 7970.

I don't know what any of this means (:D) but if these new cards help the current 6900s to fall in price, I'll be happy.

Nice!

Think about what their prices will be when nvidia drops their prices accordingly and or releases new cards.

I intend to get a 6970, but converting the 7950 price into £, I can afford that one too. It likely won't be a direct conversion when the real price in £ is revealed, but hey...

If you think you can afford the 7950 and are in no big hurry to upgrade,I would recommend it,seems like a great card :)

Upgrade? Oh, you're mistaken. I want to build my very own, first desktop gaming PC! I am looking into having it towards the end of January/beginning of February, so I have some time.

There will be some nice new hardware released at the time, also if you wait untill March, you could even get yourself one of those new Ivy Bridge Intel processors,if you're interested :)

Thank you! I am sick of waiting, though. I have finally realized my true calling as a PC gamer so yea, the sooner, the better. I have some old games to catch up on as well so I won't need the Ivy Bridge just yet either unless it fits into my budget.

Uh, wouldn't it be better if 7950 came with 1.5GB 384-bit memory? Not everyone plays on 3 1080p monitors...

They should. Once you've eyefinitied, it is nearly impossible to go back.

Maybe I'm one of the few, but I went back. Got sick and tired of games not supporting triple monitor resolutions.

Same here, although I think it's mostly the games that are showing their limitations, not the hardware.

The fact that the 5970 is labeled 2GB, but only makes use of 1GB is pretty misleading. Supposedly it mirrors the data on both vrams for each gpu to process, rathar than pooling it. 1GB is becoming a bottleneck these days.

I'll definitely go single gpu next time.

Yep, it's like RAID 1 - it stores the same data in both cards, so you effectively need to half the 2GB.

You're right, but it is sure time to invest :). Additionally I was thinking the same thing, maybe as time goes by getting a second card and doing crossfire, however, you still have that issue whether it is single (dual GPU card) or dual card with the Ram being mirrored and not pooled, correct?

Yes. I didn't know this when I bought my 5970.
