A bit more expensive than the rumored $400 - $450.

These cards are way too expensive. I saw that the 7870 is going to be $300. Too much. I will end up getting a 6870 if the prices really are that high.

For someone that might need it right now? If you always wait for the new tech than you are always going to wait.

Nvidia cards will probably be either more powerful and more expensive,or less powerful with more features but not a worthy upgrade from GTX 5xx series.

100% false

Someone that needs it right now? Is going to get screwed

This is the start of tech season, for weeks we will see new parts unveiled and planned and that will cause all of this to drop like a stone like it does every single year at this time with discounts and rebates.

The whole idea of "always waiting" as you said is an old wives tale, there's seasons to buy hardware and there's seasons to stay away from it, this is the season to stay away from it because new stuff is literally weeks away and you're paying top dollar for yesterday's best.

The reason that the newegg prices are so high is because of the realtime pricing engine, basically it starts charging for more for porducts that are selling well.

For a few items, I noticed that fry's had better prices as they were sticking to the msrp while newegg didn't.

Im guessing some people have that their appetites cooked up after a show like ces. Theres always the pc enthusiasts mentality where they must get the latest tech first regardless.

Dear g*d, Skip Bayless of gamespot has invaded the computer forums!

7970 should be $400 to $450 tops 7950 should be $300-350 depending on cooling put on these cards. The current MSRP is awful

The pricing is not awful. AMD has what people want and what they want is better than what Nvidia has to offer right now. As it stands the HD 7950 is quite abit ($460) than the GTX 580 ($500) while being a little bit faste (at high resolutions). If anything the pricing is great.

Yeah it's not the 5850 ($300 at launch)and the GTX 285 (about $400 when 5850 released), but it is what it is.

Nope. They're priced fairly. However, I do wish AMD maintained the plan of undercutting Nvidia. In the end, it really didn't win them much marketshare or respect from the PC gaming community, so there was no point in pricing their models aggressively.

I doubt it. They are just taking advantage of being the top dog in the market for a few months. And if they do *wink* *wink* then that is their loss because many of their potential customers wouldn't upgrade as quickly as they might if there were lower prices.

lolno way too expensive make it 200$...

hell even on this backup machine, hd3870x2 + 3870 in CF yields pretty decent performance results, I see no reason to spend so much money on these new cards when it would probably be better just to upgrade everything but your gpu at this point. (Sandy bridge gr8 perf, gr8 price, and finally add a SSD)
