AMD has teased somehting for a formal announcement tomorrow currently being called "tressFX' it may either be a new tesselization method or perhaps something along the lines of a proprietary tesselization engine much like how nvidia has its own physics engine. for now u can only speculate "PPLL"

beat me to it. if whatever it is is proprietary then it will not last and we need not be concerned about it. In fairness AMD are pretty focused on open standards so whatever it is i dont think itll be for AMD only. i will be interested to see what it is.

I agree completely with these. We need STANDARDIZED tech to really move the industry forward, Physx is so much more powerful than what has previously been demonstrated, but devs know that they can't build a game around it because then they would alienate roughly half the marketshare. All proprietary does is regulate a feature to being a gimmick rather than something truly ground-breaking.

What makes you think it is a tessellation method? It looks much more like some sort of hair tech

Nobody's Blaming AMD for anything. But the last thing we need is another "PhysX".

Ugh, proprietary tech annoys me. Maybe AMD can give nVidia this in exchange for their PhysX tech. But I doubt that's going to happen... :(

Like PhysX, it's something any GPU could do.

So yeah, it's kinda irritating in that regard.

this is for hair and foliage computations, it says so right in the link. An AMD proprietary it could be, but it's done well by tons of company's, at least foliage is, hair is a whole different story.
