I'm of the opinion that the sky is blue.

Yeah, it's pretty annoying when people don't make sense, isn't it?

Intel is better for high end performance but if your on a budget AMD is the way to go, although the C2D E4400 beats an X2 4200+, maybe as good as the X2 4600+so probably Intel is better now no matter what,......AMD may be great when Phenom comes out, I can only hope

Intel Pentium II/Pentium III/Celeron(Mendocino or later) vs. AMD K6/K6-2(+)/K6-III(+): Intel. AMD's K6-series CPUs apparently had poor FPUs, other limitations due to Socket 7, and can't be run in dual-CPU configurations like the P2, P3, and Mendocino Celerons could. Intel Pentium 4 vs. AMD Athlon XP: AMD, though Intel may have closed in with later P4s around the 3 GHz range. Intel Pentium 4/Pentium D/Core vs. AMD Athlon 64: AMD again, and so it would be for a long while... Intel Core 2 vs. AMD Athlon 64: Intel. (Mostly because Core 2s already perform well at stock and also overclock like crazy, thus making them popular among enthusiasts, much like the 300-366 MHz Mendocino Celerons were back in their day. Also, I don't think AMD currently has any quad-core CPUs, even though current Intel quad-cores are really just a pair of dual-cores on one chip.)

My pc gaming friends say AMD is a better microproccessor for gaming than intel. Are they correct or are they wrong? Is AMD Athlon 64 X2 better than Intel Core 2 Duo for gaming? Please dont bash me for my noob questions. I'm new here.

Your friends are still in the fanboy tree.

From a performance perspective, Intel's Core 2 Duo beats the Athlon 64 X2 on all fronts.

Well. Intel is better but...

A 2.4GHz Intel C2D is $227 on newegg

A 2.4GHz AMD Athlon 64 X2 is only about $98.

The Intel is indeed better, but the AMD is far cheaper. If you spend $170 then you can get a 3.0GHz AMD processor, which ought to be better than a 2.4GHz Intel right? If it isn't, it is probably close and it is still quite a bit cheaper. Or you can go even lower and spend $120 for a 2.6GHz AMD and so on.

Intel is better, but AMD is a much better deal.

Don't use the E6600 in a price comparison. It didn't get a price cut on July the 22nd, and remains in a similar price bracket as a Q6600. Use the E6550 or E6750 as an example (even though AMD are still cheaper, it brings the comparisons closer).

Further; E6600 = 6000+ in performance terms. However, the E6600 runs cooler and has bounds more of overclocking potential.

Or they might just be behind the times. I know a few more casual builders who didn't get wind of the Core 2 Duo processors until recently either, since they were happily gaming away on Athlon 64 3700+ processors, 6800GT graphics, and 1GB of RAM. It's fairly common for people who have been out of the loop for a while to assume AMD still holds the upper hand.

Some of my mates still think AMD are on top.

One of them bought an 8800 GTX, 2GBs of RAM and an X2 6000+ (that was even before the AMD price cuts). -_-

AMD= gaming, lower price, less popular=work harder to stay in the race=better

intel= popular=doesnt care as much bout product than amd, pricey, more compatible with most comp parts= good

AMD vs Intel, generally intel are better but that is because AMD have been breathing down their necks.

Without amd offering the competition we wouldn't have all these powerful proccessors to choose from at a cheap price.

I personally like amd they sell cheap and i like to root for the underdog but intel do have the better proccessors.

Intel is better...if you're talking about which one goes better with BBQ sauce.

That's an opinion on which is better.

The fact of the matter is that Intel makes faster chips and AMD makes more affordable chips. Which do YOU think is better?
