If I was on a budget which one would be better . The AMD AM2 4800 + or the E6600 core 2 Duo because they both run at the same speed and are about the same price ?

Just because they are clocked the same doesn't mean ****. The X2 4800+ is clocked at 2.5GHz, is it not?

Core 2 Duos have a more efficient architecture and can do more work per clock cycle than the Athlon X2s, thus the E6600 @ 2.4GHz performs similarly to an X2 6000+ @ 3.0GHz.

The X2 4800+ performs something like the E6300/E6320.

If they are same price, the Intel is more efficient and can certainly do more work. AMD is usually a bit cheaper and often more bang for the buck but in this case the intel should be better.

They aren't the same price though... IIRC the X2 4800+ is around $130 and the E6600 is around $220.

He should be aiming for the Athlon X2 6000+ if he can afford the E6600 and isn't overclocking.

In that case, I would certainly go with the 4800+ because it's a good processor at a great price. If money isn't an issue and the comparison was the 6000+ and E6600 I would go with the 6600 since it is a better processor overall.

An AMD fan that doesn't know the reason why NetBurst lost to Athlon?

I am shocked to say the least.

last time I had a look the AMD X2 5600+ was cheaper than an E6600 so don't know what you're on about with the prices.  Also AM2 motherboards are cheaper than LGA775

But the E6600 is overall better than the X2 6000+ so the X2 5600+ has no chance against the E6600.

And not all AM2 motherboards are necessarily cheaper. :)

Sorry to Amd as Intel is king again . I still hope Amd will kick Intel in the bss so the prices on the Quads will come down .

Just think about this . I E6600 with super liquid cooling rung at a easy pace of about 3.9 ghz . Not to push your Cpu to hard today as you just want to play a few games. And how about 2xgtx 8800 ?4 gigs of ram
