Hi guys. Just done my first ever overclock and since I'm still learning I didn't want to mess with the voltages just yet so just stuck to increasing the multiplier only. I increased the multiplier to x18 and have now achieved 3.6ghz and tested with Prime95 for 20 hours or so with no faults so I think it's stable. At idle it's 33 degrees and at full load it's 52 degrees. Is this a good temp?? I'm using a Hyper 212+ CPU cooler btw and the case is NZXT Lexa S with a good amount of airflow.

Those temps are good, use Intel Burn Test though, its faster at finding a fault and makes the CPU run hotter than Prime.

The temp and clock are good, but depending on your chip you should be able to hit 4GHz. I recommend against running Prime95 for the long stretch until you've hit your final wall. Use Intel Burn Test 1.7 for short range stability testing. Generally the more RAM you use the longer it will run, but standard settings will take about a minute or two.

I recommend changing the voltage settings. Even if you want to stick with 3.6GHz, the Bios auto-voltage settings are generally higher than the required amount and generates unnecessary heat and power.

You can do two things:

1. Raise the voltage slighty until x19 is capable of booting to windows, then repeat with x20
2. Lower the voltage slighty until x18 is capable of booting to windows and passing IBT.

First time I've heard of this Intelburn. I will download it and run it now. Better to be safe than sorry. How long do you think I should run the Intelburn test for??

Hey Sagan thanks for your post. I'm sure I can get it to hit higher clock speeds if I increase the voltages but I want to keep my CPU cool. I keep reading that the cooler your CPU is the longer it's lifespan is? Lol sorry I've just built this like two days ago and it's my first ever build so I want to try and take care of it. If I increased the clock speeds to 3.8ghz-4.0ghz wouldn't the temperature go up by a lot? If I get another fan for my CPU cooler and set it up so it's push/pull config will that help with the temps?

Intel Burn runs on it own time and stops itself, usually on standard lasts around 4 minutes,

Don't just assume temps will be high, try it and see if it's acceptable. Even at 4GHz the 955 will last quite a few years. It's only dangerous when you're running above 80C. Good temps are 30/60 but 40/70 is completely fine. Another fan definitely helps, I personally like to keep both fans in one direction.

Blue your wrong with AMD cpu's it dangerous if you go past 62C that is their max thermal design they are not like Intel cpu's.

This is why I don't want to push the CPU for no reason. It's at 52 degrees on full load I don't want to get anywhere near 60 degrees let alone 70, lol. I know it says 62 degrees on their website but a lot of people say it shouldn't go over 60 degrees as I keep reading. Not sure why but I'm not going to push my luck. I'm fine with 3.6 ghz just a bit of a bonus for me with the speed bump since 3.2 ghz was already fast enough for everything I want to do.

Is Core Temp accurate?? At full load it was at 52 degrees when doing the stress test with Prime95 and when I do the stress test with IntelBurn the full load temp is 54 degrees. Are there any other CPU temp monitors?

Core Temp works perfectly fine. Your temps sound a tad high....do you have a second fan on that Hyper 212+? If not, I'd recommend getting a second fan on the heatsink, it should help lower the temps a bit more. I could crank on the voltage pretty good on my Phenom II x4 940 (stock voltage is 1.3250, current OC voltage is at 1.4625) and my temps were right around what you have, when I ran two fans on my Hyper 212+. Had my CPU up from 3.0GHz to 3.59. To break 3.6 I had to push the voltage up to 1.4875 to run at 3.69. To break 3.7GHz I have to put the voltage at 1.5125. Highest OC I hit was 3.712 - I couldn't do it on air, not the best air flow in my tower. I use the Corsair H50, temps never broke 55c under full load at those settings. Anyways, you should get better temps, so put on a second fan if you haven't already.

I went from 3.2 to 3.6ghz and noticed no difference in games, i doubt you'll notice a difference going higher.
