From the Developers of Penumbra,

Demo:

http://www.fileplanet.com/215950/210000/fileinfo/Amnesia:-The-Dark-Descent-Demo-%28PC%29

Gameplay Trailer:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JEHPwAvrc_U

I thought it looked pretty interesting, although not much of a change from Penumbra. Checking out the demo myself. I hope it's playable and not just a benchmark demo.

Yeah, I saw this and was gonna check it out. But, I'm a big baby when it comes to horror games, and this looks genuinely scary, like System Shock 2 (which I had to quit after like 30 minutes). I still might try it though.

Oh, man. Penumbra is like System Shock 2 on steroids. I can only assume Amnesia will follow suit.

I won't spoil anything, but the demo had a lot of improvements over Penumbra. Enemies are much more interesting. Puzzles are better as well.

This was great. The controls when you grab on to things has been vastly improved over penumbra. They just feel more touch and accurate, and that is a good thing.

Yeah, controls were much better than penumbra. No more frustrating flicking of the mouse to move something a few centimeters.

I'm all alone at my college apartment, had to quit, I'll finish it tomorrow. It's a fine game though.

This will be awesome. Hopefully they'll release a physical retail copy too so I can actually buy their game.

Graphics are a bit dated, but I loved the atmosphere. I like how you can open doors by moving the mouse. I'm definitely buying it.

I've been waiting for this a long time, and I have to say that that demo was amazing. I really love the atmosphere and the approach the developers took with the gameplay. This is a definite buy for me.

Knocked my energy drink over last night as I was playing. Thought nothing was going to happen in those two seconds it takes to pick up and sip. I was wrong.

Scary game, don't know if I can buy it now.

I am not in mood to dowload a demo. You see i am not into bothering with this game, i wanna ask wherever those things are fixed. If yes then i might try the demo and see if i like it. If not....then its not like i am gonna bother any further with this game

It took literally under 10 minutes to download off Steam.

You can't tell me you don't have anything to do for 10 minutes while the game downloads.

What i am saying is that i am not going to bother with the game just to see if i like it. Its not like i download everydemo it comes out....how should i put it? I am not interested in this game. I am asking wherever some things are fixed, if yes then ill try the demo. But as of this moment the lack of modern setting like the previous game is really putting me off and i have no wish to try it.

But you're sitting there asking questions that won't be answered right away. Why do that when you can hit the download button on Steam, do something else for 10 minutes, and then load the game up and see for yourself?

It seems like you are a fan of Penumbra, it's only logical that you would give the same developers a chance on their newest game.

Because i can wait till they are answered. I am busy doing something else right now. I dont want to try the demo. I wanna make one simple question and when it is answered i will read it. Its much more reasier and simplier than downloading a game that i propably wont bother to try it and as i pointed out later i cant say i care much about the game. Yet i have to deal with all the "why" replies here when i asked one simple question. I did not ask for this i asked a question. If it is answered its answered. I dont need your questions on "why" this and "why" that. I asked a question if somebody wants to answer it, then good if not, then i simply wont bother with answering to other people on why i do "this" and why i do "that"

For how dated it looked (black plague looked as good basically aside from a few things) it ran really poorly. I was getting like 30-40fps on a 4890. Whats up with that?

Then don't answer me. But it's logical to, instead ask a question, try the game since it's a demo and find out for yourself.

Considering you might like what you try and end up deciding to buy it.

Actually, there aren't any weapons at all in the game. While some may dislike it, I thought it was the best move they could have made since the game is more of an atmospheric horror rather than a shoot-em-up survival horror, which aren't as scary in my opinion.

30-40fps on an ancient card is bad? huh?

It doesn't look that bad but it's really not that optimized either. If you turn on SSAO your card will get raped so much, and with the 4890, it's not that old yet, it should be able to render at 50+ frames at least, considering the graphics.

I have a 5850@825/1150 and an intel core i7/ 8 GB of ram, on max, I get about 10 FPS. Don't attempt to call my rig ancient either.

That's cool. I'm even more excited for this game now! Beating dogs with pixaxes got kinda boring... Running/avoiding/hiding from enemies made more sense, especially the enemies in Amnesia.

Are you stupid or do you not know that the 4890 is still pretty damn strong? It plays Crysis very high at 40+fps and Amnesia looks like a game from 2004/2005....should be getting up around 100fps

Are you guys insane? The 4890 is barely weaker than your 5850. It runs Crysis and any graphically demanding game maxed thats not dx11 (like metro 2033) pretty much flawlessly.

Finally got down to playing this demo... goddamn, just reminded myself of why I never finished Penumbra. I played through some of Dead Space getting bored to hell, but this demo had even less action. And that ****ing terrified me, goddamn it even the first zombie esque creature sent chills down my spine, they really built up the tension nicely. I haven't even got far past that but I can already tell how amazing the atmosphere is going to be. Just need to gather my guts and finish this. It's really not quite the same when you have to run from enemies, rather than the good ol' shooting a rocket in the face DOOM III style I've been getting used to with modern horror.

No doubt. The 4890 is still a very nice card just lacking DX11 support. It's on par or even better in many cases then my 5830. I've overclocked mine and am getting between 43-57 FPS at max settings with vsync on and SSAO samples set to 16.

It doesn't look that bad but it's really not that optimized either. If you turn on SSAO your card will get raped so much, and with the 4890, it's not that old yet, it should be able to render at 50+ frames at least, considering the graphics.

I agree. I was talking about the 30-40 FPS on an ancient card guy. and I was backing up the guy who had the 4890 saying it wasn't optimized.

and it's not.

It's really not quite the same when you have to run from enemies, rather than the good ol' shooting a rocket in the face DOOM III style I've been getting used to with modern horror.Vfanek
I had all my lights turned off, closed headphones, and volume all the way up. This is my first time playing a video game from this developer. I never played the Penumbra series, so everything about the demo was new to me. First of all, I'm glad they implemented head bobble and body movement. It made gameplay more realistic. You can feel the weight of the character, especially when he's wobbling because the darkness has taken grasp of his sanity. Amnesia: TDD is very atmospheric and immersive. When I first saw the monster walking away very slowly, the first thing I did was back up as I watched it walk away. I wasn't scared but it really got my emotions going thinking what should I do next or what my next move should be. No game has done that to me in a long time. Sure, Dead Space is an amazing game but it's very action-oriented. Amnesia builds you up to some very intense moments. I'm definitely buying this game day one. It's hard to find a horror game nowadays and this one is not the one you should be passing up.

Yea I had SSAO maxed at first then put it to 32. Maybe I should lower it. I forget what it defaulted to when I started the demo though...AA also destroys fps in this game. Either way the 4890 is like the second best dx10 card out there behind a gtx 280/285 (loses to 5850 a dx11 card by like 5 or so fps in most benchmarks). It should be dominating this game. Amnesia is amazing but graphically its nothing special. I'm getting framerates like this is Crysis or something. 30's and 40s lol.

lmao.. this is the type of game I want. Intense and your adrenaline pumping with the main character xD. It's about 3 am and I had the lights off, my earphones semi-full. My heart started pounding even when I picked up an object and dropped it. I stopped at the water part, I'll finish it later. ( I wimped out )

Just lower some of the settings. I used the recommended settings on my laptop which has a NVS 320M GPU (8600 GT equivalent). Most of the settings were on high with SSAO on and the game ran smoothly

Good if you like scary things :P

I got up to a part where you're walking through a corridor and you can hear footsteps... oh boy.

You didn't even make it to the worst part! Be afraid of water, very afraid.

I nearly filled my trousers at that part.

Haven't played any of the Penumbra series, but saw the trailer months ago for Amnesia and it got me interested. Definitely puts you in a different scenario from the usual 'I see you, I have a gun, BANG!' viewpoint. You start thinking prematurely about encountering enemies, opening up cupboards to hide in in case you run into something along the way.

The only problem is whether I want to put myself through the whole game like that. I'm a pansy.
