Hello PC & Mac Games, I need your help.

I'm going to start playing an MMO, but I can't decide which one. I will barely have time for one, so don't suggest 2.

I'm mostly a PvE guy, and GW2 is mostly PvP right ? Anyone has some group footage, or something like that, which they could show me?

Now we have Cataclysm, I played the trial, got a troll mage to 20 and loved every second of it, my friend is also the guildmaster of the best horde raiding guild on the server, so when I get to 85, I could join it. I also played WoW before, during TBC and loved it.

Last, SW:TOR. My biggest regret about WoW was that I didn't start playing during launch, and didn't form a guild that could have stayed active even now. If I got TOR, I would definitely do this, but I'm not sure if it has the staying power WoW has.

My safest guarantee, is WoW, it's here to stay, which can't be certain about GW2 and TOR, but I just can't decide.

What would you choose ?

Guild Wars 2 doesn't even have a release date yet, but will most likely come in November. TOR is supposedly coming in the spring, but nobody knows for sure. You can get to 85 easily if you enjoyed it as much as you did. It's not challenging in the least. To be honest, I'm not sure why people always think it's a bad time to break into WoW just because they didn't start in the beginning. The game is so easy to play, you can reach end-game in a matter of weeks to a month and a half if you play consistently.

So pretty much your choice is between WoW and... nothing?

EVE Online is a great recommendation. For fantasy I'd also recommend EQ, EQ2, Vanguard, aaand maybe DC Universe if you're looking for the superhero thing.

I'm admittedly looking most forward to Guild Wars 2, I like that they're trying to remove the standard tank/dps/heals trifecta from their game, amongst many other unique ideas. But it won't be out for a while.

TOR looks like it'll be a co-op instance-based dungeon thing with conversation options that you can play with friends, and then you'll have a lot of player hubs, space stuff and PvP. As I get more info about the game I become less and less interested.

You say WoW is here the stay. Well TOR is here to stay as well. A Star Wars MMO is not going away. Even if it were a bad game just look at Galaxies which still exists 7+ years after release. Even more Bioware basically got the freedom to create a lot of the major lore in this time period (no George Lucas meddling). I think your best option is just to wait until all 3 are out for a few months and you can get first hand information from people that bought it. I think you are asking this because you want to play an MMO right now. WoW is the only one out right now, so that's your only option. The other thing is that MMOs are all about your friends. If you don't think your friends will switch to TOR or GW2, you probably want to stick with WoW.

Rift. WoW is aged. SWTOR is going to suck. GW2 will be good, but it's almost a year away. Play Rift while you wait for GW2.

Guild Wars 2 doesn't look nearly as ambitious as SWTOR. And WoW is still one of the best deals around.

Not Rift, it's just a grimdark, emo-ish WOW clone.

I am very excited for SWTOR! I hope it lives up to the hype especially since it has been puched back a couple of time now :)

GW2 FTW! The first one was very very good, only lacking a persistent world. You'll have this in GW2 + no monthly fee.

The obvious choice is WoW. First of all it will keep you busy for months. The 1-60 leveling is has been redisgned and is mighty fun. Graphically it stands out from other games even though it is old. The game has some of the best music to be found in a game. Like you said WoW is here to stay.

The problem with the other two games is that they do not have a release date. Its common for mmos to be pushed back so I remain skeptical whether we will see these two this year. Also GW2 is a buy to play game, meaning it has no sub so you should be decideding whether you want to commit to TOR or WoW. GW2 will be popular as people secondary mmo and will regardless of the launch stay a while.

I would not be so sure about ToR. ToR is your typical PvE mmo with a sub fee so the make or break effect of the launch applies and seeing that it will sell a ton of boxes on launch...the first weeks will be hell.

I really want ToR to succeed but I have a bad feeling about it. Guild Wars 2 promises a lot, and will most likely deliver. It is the first MMO after a long time to actually make a change in the genre in comparison to the ones released in the past. I'd say either try WoW or Rift (since I've heard good things about it) or any other MMO until GW 2 comes out.

It's not about what we say, but what you said, the answer is WoW, it'll be quite a while till the other two get released.

im playing EVE and Rift at the moment, completely lost track of time playing rift last night and ended going to bed about 4.30am (suffering a little now) either is a good choice. As others have said TOR and GW2 are not even announced for release yet so asking which to pick from the 3 you listed seems a little odd.

Don't you hate that, I find myself trying the schedule times to play rift throughout my day as often and as long as possible. The game is almost like crack, gets you addicted and you just have to have more.

I would say get Rift. It is only a few days old so pretty muich everyone on the servers are starting off. It is totally new and so you would have people screaming at you and calling you a noob because everyone is a noob right now. And it seems to be the most popular of the new batch of non-Wow MMOs.

There's always going to be haters for one game and then bias. I recommend World of Warcraft. The other 2 are not even out and I know nothing (nor care) about Rift. I have played WoW for 6 years since launch date. I hardcore raided up until this expansion. I PvP'd a bit during Burning Crusade. I enjoy soloing the most. The game has a lot to offer. You can screw off and do achievements by yourself mostly or group with people. The game is constantly updated and the world is huge. The forum community sucks and Blizzard staff have been **** this expansion, but don't let that turn you off. There's a lot of great classes and specs to choose from. If you like a good story, WoW has great lore and fantastic quests. Leveling is much easier now and all classes are pretty interesting from the start. So give a try to a few. I got a couple months left in me. The game is just getting stale and I am burnt out. However that's 6 solid years of playing. There are still people raiding hardcore into this expansion. You will be hooked. Try it.
