I was looking at maybe starting to play a game like this, however, I am not what I would term as a strategy game expert so I was wondering if you guys thought a game like Anno 2070 would be too difficult for a new player to this genre or is it a game that you can play at your own place and learn the ropes? I have had brief stints with games like Company of Heroes, HoMM, Warcraft 3, SC2 and the C&C series. Never played any of them enough to complete, but played enough to have an interest.

Naw, the campaign missions usually ease you into the different aspects of the game very gently, so you should have no troubles with it unless you're really new to strategy games.

I'm not that much into strategy games myself, but I enjoyed Anno 1404 very much and started Anno 2070 already. Don't worry, the game has a nice campaign that eases you into the mechanics.

Does the game have save anywhere?

There is a Anno 2070 folder under "my documents" with the saves and the screenshots, but I think it will also store the saves in the cloud in UPlay.

LoL, I'm not asking where, I'm asking if the game allows one to save at ANY TIME. So I can save, quit and reload exactly where I left off next time I start the game.

Sorry I misunderstood, I thought you asked about the cloud saves, my bad. Yes, you can save at any time, even with a quicksave button.

its not a strategy, not really at least.

Its a city- and economy-sim. You build towns; farm, mine, harvest, etc; build products; sell and buy; trade via ships.

True, there are some combat aspects, but honestly that is not even 5% of the game.

It is incredibly deep and complex, yet approachable. I highly recommend it. You do not have to be good at RTSs, as the game is nothing like what you listed.

I would classify combat as tactics, and Anno games as a very strategic game.

technically, yes, it is strategic in that you need to plan thing out.

But to compare Anno to Command and Conquer, Warcraft, and Company of Heroes is not a proper comparison, at least as far as the OT's connotation of strategy games is concerned.
