Developed by Related Designs in collaboration with Blue Byte , Anno 2070 takes place in a near-future environment where climate change has forced humanity to adapt to rising sea levels that have left stretches of once-fertile land completely inhospitable. Players need to master new technologies while facing numerous ecological challenges to build their empires. Anno 2070 offers players the ability to be architects of the future and create the world of tomorrow.

Site and screens here.

Looks like it might be worth a try if you can find it on sale. Graphically pleasing for the most part.

Interesting, Anno series has always been great and modern/near futuristic setting is seriously lacking good city builders as of late. So long as the fundamental gameplay isn't changed all that much (Meaning stripped down to appeal to the mass market) I'll pick it up.

this better not be a late April fool's joke :P

I love Anno, soooooooooooo awesome. A near future one would be very welcome. I love their art directions, depth, and gameplay mechanics and I Cannot wait to see what they do with this setting

At I first I thought what?! But thinking about it, it could actually work.

I do hope don't stray to far from the franchises formula, I love relaxing with Anno

Hopefully it turns out good and gets released without any stupid drm this time. Anno 1404 is definitely among my top 5 games ever.
Please don't mess up this one. It's the only game I've been hyped for for years.

Always have enjoyed the series, Ill give this one a try forsure. The last one was fantastic.

Im not a big strategy fan but I love this series, Dawn Of Discovery was probably up there with Shogun2 as my fav strategy game of the last 5 years.

That screenshot looks nice, as long as its got the same addicting relaxing gameplay then I am all for it :D

When I saw the year, I was worried that the series might lose its charm by going to the future, but then I saw the screens...FANTASTIC. Related Designs and Blue Byte artists need a f***ing raise.

An unexpected change, but a good one in my opinion. It looks great so far. I see it uses the same engine for Dawn of Discovery. Hopefully it'll be more optimized (I've had some hic-ups during DoD).

yeah, the game looks beautiful, but the load/save times for DoD are just insane

Sounds interesting. Using a future setting might allow them more creative freedom in how they want to structure the game play and systems. Looking forward to seeing what they'll come up with.

Sort of want...

I played the hell out of the previous Anno games.

I just really hope this isn't some poor attempt to mimic Starcraft II, because that's the best selling strategy game. That's just insane.

Want. Want nao. If they keep the gameplay as hardcore as they did for Anno 1404 then its a definite must buy for me. Seriously man i took a glance at it (almost assumed it was an april fools joke) and a giant woosh of giddyness just rode over me. By damn they don't make enough decent city management type games.

That's great. The Anno series is awesome, but I've had enough of the historical economic strategy games.

Maybe that is a good thing though, as I just got the expansion for DOD at the xmas sale, should give that a try soon.

Interesting concept.

If they were to do medieval again, then what would be the point of a new game at all since we have 1404? A futuristic style can be welcomed as long as it's carefully designed. Some developers who push to the futuristic concept end up killing the series.

When I saw the the thread title I thought it might be a better version of Spore's Space stage in which instead of Islands you had planets to colonize but alas that is not so.

yes and no

they have two games and an expansion dedicated to it. Time to move on

not like there is much room for improvement for their existing games, either.

Can't wait ! I just checked my Steam version and I've played Anno 1404 / Venice for 304 hours. You just get lost in time playing games like these. Children of the Nile is another game that stole many hours from my life. Can't wait...

haha totally.

I dont know how many of the in-game "youve been playing for 2/3/4 hours, why dont you take a break" Ive received :P

My problem is...I keep restarting my lands. I dont think I have been over the patrician-level housing and associated buildings yet :(

Wow what? I'm speechless. Been playing them all since 1602, so this is a bit hard to take in! It sure looks good, but my fear is that it'll be the exact same game but with futuristic skins on buildings. Looking at that screen, it's almost exactly like 1701 with the manufacture buildings, the production buildings on the river, roads, cramming buildings in between rivers and mountains, etc. I hope they change the game mechanics drastically to reflect the fact that this is happening in the future.

Once again the number is nine...

Looks interesting, but as it is a new direction for them, and they have never done Sci-Fi, I only need to take one look at this before release.

Bold and brave move to the follow up of one of my favourite and somewhat overlooked games. Im kinda sick of the ye olde builders; so I am really keen on how this will turn out -- Im actually excited.

Will buy if Ubisoft offers a good reasonable package.

I had the same reaction. Those screens didn't really catch me at first and still not fully but I'm still very interested to see how this futuristic take turns out. Looks interesting, Sim City Anno style.

By the way there will be two sides to play with industry-focussed Tycoons and eco-friendly Ecos.

Great.. something to replace Cities XL.. that game annoyed me because of the population limit.. couldn't find any mods to remove it either Any new simcity coming out? :)
