Another 320 mo 512mo 640mo question. .

Sorry, was probably asked before.

I have a 17inch LCD monitor, hence, i always run games in 1280/1024. Can i expect a better frame per seconds if i buy a 640mo video card rather than a 320mo video card ? Or does it only make a difference for higher resolutions.... .

Idont know if i should get the new 8800 GT 320mo or 512moor a 8800 GTS 640 mo for exemple

hmm i had heard from people on these boards that at his resolution... dont really need the extra memory and that it only helps at higher resolutions. i meant here's some performance increase even at 1280 but... not enough to justify paying the extra price.

anyway that's what i read here... and to TC, if you have the money then by all means go for it. i play at the same res as you and am thinking about getting one of the new NVIDIA or AMD cards that are coming out in the next few days/weeks

well, i'll probably buya 8800 GT512mb or a 8800 GTS 640mb, i may want to buy a new monitor soon :) , lets say a 22 inchwidscreen, more mb would be welcome i guess.

I just know from my WiC experience and this benckmark. Almost 43FPS difference after the 320mb runs out of space. He blamed it on a driver problem.

Yeah..if you are going to be playing at that resolution then the 8800GT 512mb for you. But if you ARE going to get a new monitor then maybe just spend a bit more the new 8800GTS 640mb..

???? Wait when did I say he was going to get 20%? All I said that if he just wanted to be safe that he could get the new 8800GTS because of the more vram it has for the higher resolution of the monitor. But I am sure the 8800GT with 512mb of vram will handle it just fine...

I know you didnt said 20% performance, but that is the aprox increased performance that the new card should give compared to its older version. It wouldnt be a worthy upgrade.*example* ts like having a 7600gs and a few months later upgrade to a 7600gt instead of a 7950gt.

The card i have now is a ax850xt platinum edition.

i can play the COD4 demo with 30-40 fps during the action/battles.

I mean, can i expect MUCH better performence with a GT 512mb ( likeNEVER goingunder 60 fps during battles) or should i just wait a little longer and get a new high end card ?

also, i don't really want to pay like 450-500 $ a for a new card, which will probably be the price of the new high end cards, so maybe i should just get a GT 512mg . . but i dont know . . .
