if it isn't enough that the sequel to Red Faction was a pile of tosh, they've now committed the final sin and made Red Faction 3 third person - yes, that's right third-boring-useless-person

i bet theyre going to give it a "cover system" and will not make the environments destructable as well.mrbojangles25
Well, they said it was going to feature destructible environments and geo-modding more than ever before, but they said the same sort of thing about RF2 and it hardly had any, so I'm inclined to think there won't be as much of it as in the first game, let alone as a game of this day and age should...
I don't think I've played Red Faction. Is it still good? Or is it Half Life good? By that I mean, cool 7 years ago, but not really something worth my time today. Does it have a story worth mentioning?
Screenshots are interesting.

I only played the original, not nearly Half-Life, but a fun little shooter. The Geo-modding was kind of fun if you turn on the unlimited rocket launcher cheat, but really cut and dry otherwise.

Well, I can play games from a long, long time ago I've never played before and still enjoy them if they're any good at all (just played the original King's Quest from 1984 not too long ago and liked it), so take my opinion for what it's worth, but I think Red Faction was a really good though not spectacular game in its time (in other words, I wouldn't put it up there with Half-Life, no). In my personal opinion, it is worth going back and trying out, but only the first game. The second game was ported faeces.
For one thing, Red Faction let's you experience something you really can't in any other game, and that's its geo-modding. You can blow most walls away with explosives, sometimes using it to your advantage in combat (sometimes). It wasn't an essential element to the gameplay, but it was just really cool to do and had its uses at times.
The story was good enough. The big corporation Ultor runs mining operations on Mars, and you play as one of the many people lured into becoming a miner there. Turns out that Ultor treats miners like garbage, slaves basically, and there are some shady things going on to boot with miners (and only miners) getting sick with some plague all over the place. You start the game at the beginning of a miner revolt that changes the tide of everything, and you eventually find out what's going down with the plague and all that. It was enough to keep me interested in what was happening while I played, at least.
The guns are mostly pretty satisfying, enemies are mostly human but varied, story is sufficient, environments and color pallettes are surprisingly numerous considering it all takes place on Mars, music fits well and includes a few really nice action tracks, geo-modding gives the game uniqueness and a little extra flare, the game uses the Half-Life loading system which you don't see too often... Oh yeah, and sticking remote charges on enemy soldiers makes for one of the funniest things you can do in all of gaming (you'll see why if you ever try it).
So, yeah, I say it's worth going back and trying out. While it isn't an awesome game, it has some unique traits and an overall experience that makes you remember it as a game of its own, a game that stands out a bit despite not being amazing.
You can never play too many good FPS-games, lol.artur79
correct, my friend, and RF is really a goodie - go for it - and let me know if you get stuck at the bit with the submarine... i know what to do ;)
