Hello all. I am VERY new to PC gaming after being a mac user and console gamer for years. 3 weeks ago I bought a computer from best buy and realized I LOVED having a non mac PC and i loved all the games. After poking around on forums I realized my mobo was not upgradable, the psu was a really low watt one and I eas pretty much stuck with what I had so I returned it last week. I know I should build my own but I cant and dont have the time. So I went to this magic micro site and built this. Any input would be appreciated as Id like to buy a gaming rig asap. Is this ok for noob like me? Thanks in advance! I took the base of what they had and changed it up a bit.

Why not build yourself buying the components from newegg? How much are you paying for that rig from that site? Bare in mind you've linked us to your basket so we can't see your items. The build itself looks great. That graphics card is very strong so is the CPU. Btw if a Samsung F3 1TB is available instead of that drive go for that. Not that I know of any problems with the Hitachi, just the F3 is awsome.

That will ROCK games for the next couple of years. As you probably know, buying instead of building is going to cost you more than it should.. but the system will scream from the parts listed.

Thanks for all of the replies! As I stated in the first post, I do not know how to build a computer and just do not have the time to learn how at this point. So I am well aware I could order all the parts for cheaper. Right now I am willing to pay for someone who knows how to build it to do it so when I get the computer it actually works! :p

The total comes to 1454 without shipping. I tried to build similar builds on other sites and they were WAY more OR some were even cheaper but had terrible reviews.

I am feeling pretty good about the build for the money. I will post a link to the barebones build so that you guys can suggest some changes if something major needs to be changed. I know nothing about the cases so I went with the one it comes with. I wouldnt mind changing if there is one so much better but not 100$ more. I really appreciate the input guys! The seagate HD is 16$ more, should I get that? I am basically just wanting to get a computer that I can upgrade easily in the future. I am sure I may crossfire or sli GPUs when new ones come out.

Here is how it started. Man, I miss playing empire total war and arma II :(

http://www.magicmicro.com/smoreinfo.asp?iid=2331

Thanks again all, this is SO helpful!

Edit: Also I may get this case instead of the one listed. Thoughts?http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811119196

Try to avoid the 7200.11 Seagate drives, as they have a reputation of failing. AFAIK, the 7200.12 drives are fine.

Well as far as the build goes I only have a choice between seagate and and the hitachi for the HD. The seagate is more than 20$ more than the hitachi. Should I get the hitachi instead? This is the first I have heard that seagate is bad. Thanks for the reply.

If there is no way to determine if the seagate is 7200.11 or not, I would suggest going with the hitachi. I wouldn't risk it considering how bad the failure rate of those Seagate drives are.

Wow, 20 bucks more and it fails all the time? Lame. Thanks for the posts guys. I am buying this comp in a couple of hours.

I cant find out what version it is though it does say "• 12th generation of the world's most popular desktop hard drive"

What? Can't have any fun around here? But seriously.. if you look at what's on the market for gaming components right now, and you look at what he has picked out, don't you think it's about an 8.5ish? His CPU is one of the best.. his GPU is one of the best (but not THE best), he has a huge hard drive, lots of RAM.. 8.5 it is.

I try to avoid rating systems, as usually it just makes the OP disappointed with his/her purchase. My rule is this: if you're satisfied with your purchase and it runs games to your expectations, then it's a good purchase.

Its not that hard bro. I would say it is a good build. I take off points for it being pre-built. I also hope you will overclock that CPU, though being pre-built idk. Also I absolutely hate those cases, just my opinion. 8.0

Hey, it wasn't meant to disparage or disappoint. Just a general rating of where I think the system stands. I didn't take the Case into account either, as long as it cools that's fine. If I'd just put together a new system I'd take an 8.5 rating as a good thing, unless I'd spent 5 grand or something silly.

I took the case into count :). Though I usually don't, I just see a lot of people not really carrying what case they get. When in reality the case is going to be the part of your computer you want to last a good while. Those Antec cases are just too small on the inside and aren't great for cable management.

I suppose I'm the only one who considers a rating of 8 as average :P. Whatever. I doubt the OP will lose some sleep just because of a rating someone gave for his system.

To make him feel better I'll give it a 9/9.5 - and thats an honest rating too! A 10 for me would have SSDs, mass storage, dual 5970s, 8GB DDR3 etc.

Thanks for the replies guys. I wasnt really shooting for a "10" or even a rating per se. Just wanted some input which i got. I dont know how to build a computer yet so I had it done for me.I will probably learn how to do the upgrades I plan on later myself. I am pretty sure this is a pretty good rig for my first gaming rig. Thanks again for the input. :)

Spending a couple of weeks on overclock.net and here I have learned that I could have saved money BUT the extra cash I spent is worth it to me as working and trying to complete MBA has left me little spare time. So the time I do get I want to spend gaming and not trying to figure out why my computer doesnt work:p I graduate soon, after that I am going to give this to my buddy and build my own. Thanks again guys.

Thanks, I have no doubt. I am thinking of ordering another 5850 for my rig now and putting it on when my comp gets here. If I order it now it will be here a day before my computer does. I dont exactly know why but I just want another one. Is there a marked improvement in performance? FPS?

Spending a couple of weeks on overclock.net and here I have learned that I could have saved money BUT the extra cash I spent is worth it to me as working and trying to complete MBA has left me little spare time. So the time I do get I want to spend gaming and not trying to figure out why my computer doesnt work:p I graduate soon, after that I am going to give this to my buddy and build my own. Thanks again guys.

I have found that after people find out they screwed up on a purchase they say they don't care just to make themselves fill more secure.

lol. Are you serious? I bought my first PC ever and didnt build it myself and its a screw up? lol. Ok guy.

You have no idea what I mean, and don't quadruple post.

how on a scale of 1-10 is the third highest number your median?Nibroc420

For the same reason why I don't consider a game with a rating of 5 as average, even though it it's labeled as "mediocre" by GS.

So you openly admit to using more of a 4 point scale then, 6-10. 6 and 7 being below average, 8 as average, and 9-10 as being good..... i hope you never become a reviewer.

That's odd, because you gave the game "space siege" an abysmal rating even though GS gave it a mediocre rating. By your books, it deserves a rating of 5, because it clearly is an average game that is worth playing. It isn't an "abysmal" title like you rated it, how could you?

So just like you said, "I hope you never become a reviewer", because you're following the rule which you just stated above!

This just shows how difficult it is to rate a game, or anything for that matter, because opinions vary greatly from person to person. It's very hard to find a review which the masses will agree too, because there'll always be people who absolutely detest or love it, and there are always people who have different standards on what defines what is "good" and what is "bad".

That motherboard doesn't support sli, it only supports crossfire, though it wouldn't matter for you i guess since your 5850. You can get the gigabyte ud3r motherboard for a better price and performance though. I wouldn't trust a hitachi hd so much, i'd rather go with a seagate or a western digital one. Also, when you buy that gigabyte motherboard you won't need to spend money on the sound card because it has inbuilt sound. Other than that your build seems pretty alright. I'm building and i7 920 system too and i've done a lot of research which is why i have a good feel for this sort of thing.
