So I've had my computer built for a few months now. Everything is running great, but one thing is driving me nuts and still hanging over my head: cable management! I've got an Antec 900. My disk drive is in the 2nd from the top compartment and my hard drive is in the very middle compartment. Any helpful advice on organizing this machine? Should I put the disk drive and HDD in other compartments than they're already in?

Two words.......Cable Ties lol. I have the same case. Shove any extra wires coming from the PSU under the bottom HDD cage. Other than that, cram any extra cabling anwhere u can secure the cables too on the case. ill try to find a pic of my cable management

I use the black electrical tape to wrap up some wires neatly. Also, swing some of those cables behind the motherboard mounting plate! It does wonders if your cables are long enough.

This is my wiring. It gets great airflow because the top front fan is on high and the wire blob isnt there.

lol...it's pretty hard not to have good airflow in the 900, what with that massive fan on top! I love mine, it creates like a cold vortex all around it. Not the quietest though...

That's a good idea. That would require me to take everything out, wouldn't it? I've thought about that, actually. I saw a video of a guy who drilled holes in his and ran them through that as well.

Thanks for the picture! It definitely helps a lot. Where is your disk drive and hdd located??

Just wanted to point out that you are not running in Dual Channel mode with the RAM like that. Move the second stick over to the yellow slot for dual channel. Check page 16 of your motherboard manual for more info.

one thing you can do is cut a hole next to where the PSU is sitting.

but i gotta say, i think the mess is worth it :D

worst part is, my psu is modular, and it still looks like this, i might drill some holes and feed my cables through like you said, good idea

I was thinking of getting that case, it's one of the best for cable management, people run everything through the back of the mobo tray and either you cut holes or you get the newer version with 2 holes to return the cables. Check out the 60 page thread at xtremesystems.

ya funny thing is, i noticed a few holes in the mobo tray, but you still have to cut out holes for where the cables come out to the hardware, i just got everything put together and working good, i dont really want to mess with it now, maybe over christmas break, but i will definately have to look into it eventually, anyways, it runs great and amazingly cool with everything cluttered like it is, so im happy

Yea, the 900 is a pain in the ass because it only has 2 holes for cable management unless you get creative. Heres mine, just to help out alittle...also it seems like everyone has the same psu for this case :P

Looks kinda messy cause of the ide cable, i bought my round one but i accidentally got the 36 inch one:lol:

The only wires in the back..i have some behind the mobo also

Audio cable for the front panel, fan wire and media card reader cable coming from the back

up-close i actually have the cold cathode sound censor on the very top slot where most ppl put there cd drive, easy to get both cables there without extensions.

not bad for no mods.

Wow! That's some really good cable management. Thanks a ton for the pictures, it helps a lot. I don't think my tray has those holes, so I will probably have to make my own. It looked like those are the only 2 holes you used, correct? What tray did you put your hdd and dvd drive? Did you have to use any cable extensions?

I don't have the same case (got an NZXT Hush instead), but cable management is cable management no matter the case. Use cable ties like wii_123 said (also known as zip ties) Here's a picture of my case with the side panel taken off. I'm still going to organize it a bit more (DVD Burner hasn't arrived yet so no point in organizing the remaining cables for now), but it gives you an idea of what to try to achieve. as you can see, the cables not being used will be out of sight in the 5.25" drive compartment. the front panel cables (connecting the speakers, mic, power and reset LED's, front fan, etc) have all been tied around the border of the case and they lie flat on the bottom panel. the power and SATA cables for the hard drive have been moved to the back of the case and are mostly out of sight. there they were attached to an empty slot with more zip ties. the back case fan's cables run hidden along the border of the case. you can barely see it and the only indicaiton that it is actually there are the red zip ties. the heatsink's connectores have been looped around the fan itself and then connected to the CPUFAN socket. it looks a lot cleaner this way. i couldn't do much with the CPU cable and the 2 6pin cables for the video card, but they are still relatively clean looking. the 24-pin motherboard connector also goes into the 5.25" drive compartment and loops back to the power supply while remaining mostly out of sight..

Cheers for that. I would be working on this now, but I have a final that I have to take tomorrow. Then the girl is going to make me spend time with her, and THEN I can attempt cleaning up my cable mess.

I did use another hole in the back top corner for my media card reader, but those are the only holes that i used, and also no cable extentions yet. Heres a pic of how i have my dvd drive, the hdd is right under my dvd drive.

Yeah, the cable wasn't really long enough to run it behind anything. I need to get an extension so I can get rid of it.

run the cables going to the fans on the top and back along the edge, and use zipties EVERYWHERE. hangnail clippers will take them off if you mess up. there is an area behind the hard drive cage, where you can shove a lot of stuff. ziptie the cables you don't plan on using as tight as you can back there. I just cable managed a 300 and i left the 8 pin pci cable out in plans for a gtx 280. anyways, you can also put some cables on the flat side of the hard drive cage (the side you see when you open it up), just make sure the case will close with them there. i recommend clearing a big section around your gpu for future upgrades.
