So I was browsing another website and found a link to a new reality TV show called Murder on Spike TV. Basically 2 teams of 3 have to solve a murder that really happened. Anyways, long story short,a 14 year old girl was murdered and 3 out of the 6 people immediately pointed the finger at the brother who played violent video games saying that the brother was disturbed for playing such vile things. This coming from people who are playing cop staring at a dead manaquin with 11 knife wounds in her body with blood everywhere. It's actually a good watch.

Here is the link to the full video. http://www.ifilm.com/episode/22249?startsWith=2890545

I am not sure, I think he was like 15 or 16. If you watch the video there were a lot of other suspects. see if you can guess which one did it.

I know, I do mentalism and magic. Not on stage or anything, but I hope to one day. I can tell you that its very easy to get someone to believe anything. And thats what these people are doing.

Not good because that means if any of us know anyone that are killed, we will be prime suspects just for playing violent games.. and if they check out some arguments/posts that people make here, it's probably be used as evidence to show how "unstable" and "angry" that individual is. Especially if they saw the system wars forum. :D

Then those people are idiots. People who automatically assume people are violent because they play violent games, are idiots. Here's the question you have to ask though: How long were school shootings and city riots happening before video games were invented?

that's a real shame. after all, if we didn't have at least a little violence in games, we'd only have puzzle games and games about hugging bunnies (not that i didn't love Bunny Hugger 3: Xtreme Edition on the DS). on a side note, i find that show to be completely disturbing in concept. not because of the blood or anything, but because they're making entertainment based on actual people's actual deaths. it seems a bit off...

Ya, its actually more disturbing for me to see that picture of the girl laying in the bed dead and her mother(or was it her father?) call the 911, its so sad :(

Most of the people focused on the brother's collection of macabre entertainment, but it's important to note that he ended up being completely unrelated to the crime. I think if anything, this clip shows the way that people's preconceptions affect their decisions, and how we shouldn't allow that to happen. Really, this illustrates the stereotypes applied to gamers, and how wrong those stereotypes are.

I agree that this showprobably isn't in good taste, but I find it really intriguing. It would be interesting to go through something similar to thisto better understand how criminal investigations work, but it probably shouldn't be televised out of respect for the victim's family.

Also, to the person who made reference to the nonexistant game used: Of course the game doesn't exist, did you notice that it was made for a console called "Gamestation 3?" They intentionally changed the names and cover art of all the games, books, etc. in the brother's room so as to not inadvertantly affect the sales of that particular product. Also, to avoid lawsuits.

Never mind then :D. It might even be a ripoff of that game "thrill Kill" now that I think about it. Only game everto recieve anAO rating because of violence alone, I believe.

I saw that episode, and you're blowing it out of proportion. They were simply brainstorming, and at the time they didn't have any decent evidence.

I want to go on that show, it looks interesting.

It has to be more than violent video games. I've played a few gut-busters (F.E.A.R, Doom 3, etc) and I'm not killing my sister and relatives. I think that there has to be some sort of add-on to killing (you can't blame violent video games alone. After all, the murderer decided to play that game.) Possibly some sort of family tragedy or something like that.

Thats pretty dumb conclusion, to base your entire point on the fact he played violent video games.. Its too circumstantial, and has been shown one has nothing to do with another.
