Installed Age of Empires II on my laptop today. As you can imagine, being a 10+ year old game, the fps is 10 times higher than what the screen can display.

I figured capping the fps would be better for battery life, problem is; the laptop uses Intel integrated graphics (HD 3000 (or whatever the one on Sandy mobile is called)), and the control panel isn't quite as advanced as AMD or nVidia's control panel.

Anyone know of any programs that can force an fps cap or force Vsync on a game?

kegetys fps cap http://newvegas.nexusmods.com/mods/43784 works on every game i've tried it on. That's DX based anyway.

Just tried that and another called FPS Limiter 0.2, neither worked. Thanks, though.

You can try the free version of Dxtory to cap your framerate, maybe that works.

Thanks for these suggestions guys, unfortunately they didn't work either. I really thought the Intel control panel would have done it. I read somewhere that Dxtory only works with 3D applications, maybe the same is for the other solutions? Fraps seems to be able to limit FPS while recording, shame it doesn't have an option for FPS cap without recording.

No, no Vsync or anything like that in AOE 2. The only things in the graphics options are three preset and archaic resolutions (got a widescreen patch to bypass this) and low, medium or high texture quality. :P

We really need an accurate remake of that game. Shame on Microsoft for the severe neglect. Even just an HD update would be satisfactory.

I use Nvidia Inspector. Works great for capping FPS.

There are plenty of mods, I run it at 1080p.
