It's weird that war, gun/sword violence, funny, and cartoony stuff and everything between has been done already...
but aren't really any genuinely scary games... its not easy to create true fear; if its too over the top it looks silly and tacky
Some games try to do it with grotesque monsters and violence, claustrophobic/dark environments, or cheap "jump out" scares but that formula has been squeezed dry.
Does anyone know any horror games that have broken the "4th wall"? Getting the player actually involved as a person (not a controller of a game character)
as title...i would prefer to have more intense experience than FEAR or Doom 3.mac631
Neither of those games were really that great. If you want a truely creepy atmosphere which is done well then check out STALKER, Condemned: Criminal Origins or Aliens vs Predator.
Too bad STALKER does not have demo. anyway its graphic is bad enough.mac631

Try Grand Theft Soul, I mean WoW. It's so intense people give up their lives to play it.
You have just gained a lot of respect, Sir.
lmao

You want a game just for the sake of being violent...? Whats wrong with ya mate.
Anyways, one of my most favorite disturbing type games is Eternal Darkness. Alas, it's only for the gamecube though. If you can get your hands on it I strongy reccomend it. Your character starts to go insane in that game and you start having hallucinations like the walls bleeding, endless corrridors, etc. It's amazing, funny that such a demented game is exclusive to a nintendo platform.

STALKER has great graphic than Crysis? Do you even play Crysis?
Anyway the game list does not mean anything as I do not add all the games I played.

i just played condemned demo and its atmosphere is dark but not scary. well it have some jumpy shock moments. Anyway i think the Condemned 2 would be better as I watched its game video. It's awesome.

Oh please level 8, your sig has World of Warcraft in it so don't flameToo bad STALKER does not have demo. anyway its graphic is bad enough. i think i will wait for Clear Sky.mac631
While I can't say I agree with NEO on it looking better than Crysis, I assure you that it is by no means a bad-looking game. STALKER is one of those games, in my opinion, that just looks pretty mediocre visually when you look at screenshots or videos, but looks quite a bit better when you actually play it.

But the environments are so horribly bland and grey. The physics is out of wack and the characters models are awkward and blocky.

But they don't look bland because of a poor color pallete and washed out textures like you often see in games, it's intentionally that way to portray a particular dead environment. That is, there are games where you can tell they're grey and brown simply because the artists didn't have the sense or the talent to have a better usage of colors and textures, and there are games where less vibrant environments are noticeably intentional and fitting. In the latter case, I personally would call it "grey done right." It's not just the colors you use, it's how you use them, and I think STALKER used its "bland" pallete very well.
I agree, the physics are poor, but I don't really consider that a very immediate part of the visuals, I consider that more a faulty aspect of its own. I don't think the character models look awkward necessarily, but yes, they could be better. Anyway, I'll be the first to say that (in my opinion) STALKER isn't a wonderful-looking game. But it's good enough, I think; certainly not bad.

I think you've mentioned this pallete thing before. I know its to portray the environment but I've seen it look much better in COD4.
I think the physics are important visually because when I hit someone with a knife I don't want to see them go sliding along the ground. It just looks blatantly wrong. Its the same with a dead body have a leg stick up in the air. Its horrible to see.
