QUAKE Live Battlefield Heroes Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory F.E.A.R Combat Trackmania Nations Forever The Ur-Quan MastersS0H0
Great list! Plus, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_commercial_video_games_released_as_freeware.
Also, there are alot of F2P MMORPG's out there, in addition to games originally designed as freeware that you might want to checkout. edit: I noticed Combat Arms wasn't covered, so here's even another list for you OP -- free shooters.
Farcry is free. http://www.gamershell.com/news_41339.html
So is Battleforge.

That wikipedia list isn't 100% right. Cellfactor Revolution is free physx game that can now be played with any nVidia card 8series and higher with the new drivers and boy those cloth physics are incredible.
Nexuiz. It's free and open-source FPS in the style of Unreal Tournament, and it runs on anything if I remember right.

No, the list isn't exhaustive, that's for sure.
By the way OP, be sure to check out The Ur-Quan Masters if you aren't familiar with Star Control 2. SC2 was such a great game! ;)

This features includes tons of free FPS games. I have a list of those (and tons others) below:
America's Army: Special Operations (also known as AA2)
America's Army 3 (if your comp is good)
AssaultCube (see Cube & Cube II below, but with modern-tactical theme)
Battlefield Heroes (free-to-play persistent WWII shooter with wacky atmosphere)
Celestial Impact (robots duking it out on asteroids made of candy)
Combat Arms (hokey MMOFPS with a LOT of weapon, mods, and new content every month)
Cube (Quake-style arena shooter with cube-based map editor)
Cube II - Sauerbraten (prettier than no. 1; it's a German game, hence the German subtitle)
GunZ: The Duel (Max Payne meets The Matrix gunplay with katanas and acrobatics mixed in)
Huxley (post-apocalyptic MMOFPS still in development)
Nexuiz (super-pretty Quake-style arena FPS that actually runs on an uber-modified Q1 engine, and so supports Q1 mods)
Parabellum (counter-terrorism MMOFPS still in development)
Quake LIVE (free version of Quake III Arena, with Team Arena thrown in - constant updates and new content makes this one still the king)
Savage - Battle for Newerth (fantasy (!) FPS where one player directs all the others on his team as a commander, and playes RTS-style)
Savage II - A Tortured Soul (very pretty sequel to Savage, with a few tweaks and additions)
Soldier Front (played with same account as GunZ - kinda like Combat Arms, but a bit slower-paced)
Tremulous (humans vs. aliens in team-based Quake II standalone mod; build structures and buy upgrades to outmatch your enemies)
Tribes (the original team-based jetpack slugfest got released for free; go get it!)
Tribes II (also released for free, these were released for free by Sierra as a promotion for Tribes: Vengeance)
Urban Terror (standalone Quake III Arena mod - tactical shooting meets power slides and other acrobatics for a unique experience)
War Rock (similar to Combat Arms, but class-based and with vehicles in some modes, with a Battlefield-like game mechanic thrown in)
Wars§w (say "WAR-saw"; Quake II standalone mod with cel-shaded graphics and a surreal atmosphere - an eSport in the truest sense)
Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory (the most played class-based shooter since Team Fortress - WWII style objective gameplay - guard the tank!)
World of Padman (comic book-y art style with badditude and flip-offs, alongside squirt guns and rabid-duck melee weapons - 'nuff said)
Those are all my FPS suggestions. If that's not enough to tide you over, you are insatiable. :)
America's Army 3 rocks. Just now got a bunch of bugs fixed after yesterday's patch. I wasn't a fan of AA or AA2 and I like this game. Only free game i've played that I enjoy(i'm pretty picky as far as quality lol and this game is just as good gameplay wise as other top shooters) and having some good times.deadcell88I play AA2 all the time, and the people in that game said AA3 was horrible, but now that you say they released a patch that fixed a bunch of the bugs, I might just give it a try.

I think AA2 is better but AA3 is still a great game.
