Can any of you tell me any good free roaming games, like where you can just wander round, do things, missions/quests at will? I know GTA, Mercenaies, STALKER.

Any good space sim games of thisvariety in perticular?

on a side note, is it worth downloading Anarchy Online? i know its old n all, but i like SCI-FI MMO's

regards

Morrowwind and Oblivion are freeroaming. They are about all that comes to mind. I'm not sure with shooters aside from GTA and STALKER, maybe Postal 2, though I haven't played it since it has starforce. I've only heard about it.

In regards to downloading Anarchy Online, if you can get some friends to play with you then yes it's worth it. However, if not I would pass on it since it's old and the community has drastically shrunk in size when compared to what it used to be. It is a great game though and next best Sci-fi mmo to EVE.

The Elder Scrolls Oblivion

Just Cause

Scarface the World is Yours (I liked it...)

and you already mentioned STALKER, but it's a great game and well worth mentioning again.

Good suggestions above. Morrowind (and Oblivion) are about as free-roamy as you can get. There are a handful of free-roam-esque FPSs available. Just Cause, mentioned above, is one, and so is Far Cry. Obviously, free roaming means something different in a shootemup like Far Cry than it does in an RPG like Morrowind. In Morrowind, it means you've got an entire continent at your disposal, along with all the details on it--flowers to pick, houses to freeload in, and so on.

Far Cry has an open map, which gives you the opportunity to approach bad guys from the terrain of your chosing; naturally, though, it's a more limiting experience than Morrowind. The game is divided into sections (it's an island chain, after all), and there are zones and areas instanced mission to mission. And you don't, of course, decide what missions to accomplish--you just decide if you'd rather snipe the guy from the ridge on the east, or hike through the valley up underneath him, or drive a jeep through the brush along the west.

in some buggy-style ways its a pain in the rear, but if you dig fantasy-type settings,

then you might enjoy a fill of GOTHIC3.. huge freeroaming enviorments, besides the main campaign ther are litterally tons of little side quests...

check it out. it never took off in sales, so you can find it for cheap and its technologically very uptodate and

absolutely beautiful and entertaining- if you can forgive its occasional flaws in code

Again? Anyway, pretending that never happened... :P The following games all feature fairly open-ended gameplay that lets you progress mostly as you wish: - The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion - Far Cry - No One Lives Forever 2 - Deus Ex - System Shock 2 - Operation Flashpoint

Space Force demo just got out, and i must say it's very damn good! Action-RPG-Space-Sim.

might take a minute or two to learn how to play, since there's no tutorial of anykind, and you can't review your controls anymore when in-game (i tried to memorize as many as could before i started it :P).

the space is large (well it's SPACE!), and you don't have to follow the story if you don't wan't to. you can go hunt down enemies, mine some asteroids, or do trading. what ever you like. then you can upgrade your ship, or even buy new one. and it has different classes in it; everything you do, earns you experience points to the skill you are using

Boiling Point. THE BEST free roaming game ever.

Laser_Eyes

well it had good idea in it, but too bad it was almost unplayable because of all the bugs it had. propably the buggiest game i've ever played. i haven't tried it with the latest patches though...

i had a similiar issue with it, but i realized that it was the fact that NVIDIA's 7000-series cards don't support HDR and AA at the same time. i use AAx4, and "Normal" light setting, and it's looking good.
