Hi guys,

So I've recently got back into Mount & Blade Warband, with the Prophesy of Pendor v3.51 mod, and it got me thinking.

I'd really love to play a space themed sandbox game where you can buy ships, upgrade them, travel around, select and hire a crew (not just numbers, actual different characters) Sell/buy cargo, get in fights, missions for ppl even become a pirate or slaver if thats your preference etc etc

I was wondering if anyone knows of any games which exist that fit the bill? :P

Thanks :)

Mount and Blader here too :) X3 is what you are looking for. I had the same thought and bought it a little while ago. From reading forums I decided to start with Albion prelude (the newest one) I'm actually in the process of downloading it right now. It has everything you mentioned I believe :) Hope it's for you! Apparently it starts off really slowly (but so does vanilla mount and blade)

as mentioned the X series is what you are looking for. X3 is a very good place to start from what i hear (i tried to start with X1 but decided to drop it for X2 which makes massive improvements). buy ships, make companies, trade, fight, explore...its got the lot. if you can find it freelancer is also worth a go. it has nowhere near the depth of the X series but is much easier to get used to. If you are new to this type of game then freelancer has a nicer learning curve and is good fun in its own right.

Thanks guys. I've checked out X3 on steam and it looks good. I would of prefered to control a single ship similar to firefly/millenium falcon :D but a fleet would also be cool :)

Let me know how it plays out. I'll have a more in depth look then may very well purchase it! :) Thanks

Recommend Terran Conflict. Make sure you read the manual as well. It's a far more complicated game than Mount & Blade, but the tutorials/starter missions aren't very helpful explaining many things.

The X-Series are the best ( Just Get Albion Prelude and then wait for X-Rebirth ). Try Pioneeer if you liked the Frontier Elite games. Other than that there is Freelancer, its old now but the game is very good.

I can't stress this enough, but Eve Online is EXACTLY what you're talking about. It's an MMO with one hell of a difficulty curve, but in the end it's absolutely worth it. From what you describe, I think you would really enjoy it!

The upcoming Star Conflict looks like it might be pretty interesting.

Eve Online does not have hireable crew btw. It also has upgrades for your ships, but you don't actually see any visual changes to them.

SOAS?

Nobody's mentioned it yet so it could be the wrong kind of game...

There aren't any sandbox space games out there that do combat as well as mount & blade does sword and shield combat, though.

X3 has bland combat. EVE has downright boring combat. Evochron Mercenary actually has pretty good combat, but it's a little lacking in the sandbox aspects.
