If you liked GalCiv 2 and you're okay with hybrids, why not check out Sins of a Solar Empire? It has all of the size, scope and depth of a TBS, but it's all real time. It's not a real time strategy, though - it's more like a real time representation of a turn based game. It'a also by Ironclad.
It's also absolutely magnificent. It's been out since Monday and I've already spent about close to fifty hours with it. My review has quite a lot of info if you want to read up on the game, and links to a couple youtube videos worth watching.

Lol, yeah, I remembered that mere seconds ago. I was coming back in here to delete the thread and go buy Sins online :P Thanks mfsa.
From this year? Well... there will be Disciples 3, King's Bounty, Jagged Alliance 3 and Empire :TW. From recent games you might want to check out Heroes of Might and Magic V, SIlent Storm and Dominons 3AdrianWerner
Disciples 3 has a sick artstyle. I can't wait for it.
King's Bounty released a trailer recently, and it really caught my attention.
