I just bought a set of klipsch promedia 2.1 and would like them to really shine. however my onboard sound is a little screwy and the base on some songs sounds really messed up. Can someone point me to a decent sound card, i'll probably wait until after thanksgiving to buy to hopefully get it on sale. I have a pci slot and a pci-e x1 slot open

Grab a HT Omega Striker or if you have the money get the HT Omega Claro. Despite the fact that I own the "top" of the line sound blaster card, I would rather have the HT Omega, but they were more expensive at the time. My sound is really good, but it could be better.

Sound Blaster Xtreme Gamer would be the best choice for listening to music and gaming.
