My job requires a lot of Skype communication. Problem is, whenever I plug my microphone I hear some very annoying white noise. Tried it with a couple of headsets, but as far as I know the noise is produced by the cables and components close to the microphone cable.

I only have one microphone jack. I've already fiddled with the Windows and mainboard noise suppresion settings, but the humming is driving me mad.

Is there any software that can filter this noise? Or any other things you recommend? I don't need to edit any recording, I just want the noise to go away while I talk to someone.

If its electrical interference which i would suspect it is, you could make your own shielded wire by wrapping foil around the length of the cable and then cover that with eletrical tape. Its going to look stupid but it would simulate what you would find in a factory wire that is double shielded.

You could also very well have a grounding issue on that jack or the I/O panel on your computer.

Sometimes interference just happens and it seems like no matter the shielding and grounding and software, it just doesn't help. I had a netbook like that last year that just... geez, nothing I did.

UNTIL, I installed a little Bluetooth receiver and used it with my Bluetooth headset. Perfect quality after that.

Just a suggestion. :)

Hi I have found that there is often 60Hz hum and/or white

noise sizzle coming through on computer microphones.

What usually clears this up for me is to unplug the jack

a few times. The connection is very sensitive.
