Any new MMOFPS like Planetside coming out anytime in future?

Hey all,

I've been waiting for a huge online FPS like Planetside for a few years now, but never see anything close to it. I loved the huge battles of 100 vs 100 you would get and the never ending world without rounds. The problem with all the new ones being introduced they have NPC's and you battle them most of the time. I am looking for one that doesn't have NPC's just pvp battle. I loved the teamwork involved in such large battles. Probably one of the best game exp's i've had although it wasn't up to par on technology at all times.

It seems this isn't a genre anyone wants to step into. PS is not fresh anymore, so I don't want to go back to a dying game. Please tell me there is something similar with a world that is 24/7 and not just "pvp arenas", but a real time world.

Edit: I did enjoy the ability to level and work towards ranks and new weapons, but not having to do it with NPC's.

Already have been following it, but again its not a real time world. You have ot enter pvp and npc "arenas" . I am looking for something that the entire world is the arena, the battle is always raging. In PS they had safe zone you started in, but when you enter the world its a huge battlefield that never ends.

Nothing so far has even come close to planetside in this regard. It makes me sad. I may have to settle for something like Huxley at some point.

I was glancing over that. Basically, what I am looking for is an MMOFPS with persistent world/arena in the fact that if you take a base, you have to hold it. That way you have to work as a team and provide strategy. Huxley claims that I believe, the arenas will be persistent, you just have to pick which arena and they aren't connected like planetside.

Was I reading that right? I just like the idea of having to hold ground etc 24/7 and the ebb and flow of control/ strategy of holding that land. Planetside had that which really was a cool experience.

Nothing like Planetside and it's a shame.

Also, Blizzard keeps saying their next MMO is totally different from WoW and won't compete with it. Makes me almost think they might be trying an MMOFPS game.

Anyway, a live, persistent Quake Wars or something may be great.

I really miss Tabula Rasa...that was fairly close to a shooter. I wish they just fixed it, instead of rolling over and dying

Hopefully Blizzard's MMO is an FPS. Blizzard really know how to make good games.

From what I understand and have seen with my own eyes, Huxley is nothing at all like Planetside. It's more or less an Unreal Tournament knockoff carrying a misleading MMO moniker. It allows players to roam huge cities filled with thousands of other players, but the actual battles can only support hundreds of players. In short: Cities can be thought of as 3d chatrooms and meeting places, but the actual competitive gameplay only exists in instances that support a limited number of players rather than fighting in a persistant, gigantic world.

I really wish we would get another game like Planetside. Speaking of MMOFPSs, to this day I maintain that there has never been a better one than World War 2 Online, now known as Battleground: Europe. Sure, it got bad reviews, but anyone who played it knows just how hardcore and amazingly unique it was. If you wanted to feel like you were really part of a large-scale war, with thousands upon thousands of enemy troops roaming in a persistent landscape that literally stretched for miles upon miles and that was actually modeled after Europe during the 40s, WW2 Online was the greatest experience you could possibly have.

You should all try a game called welkin 4591. Its a chinese remake of planetside its awsome. The only problem is its in chinese and it lags. www.4591.com

This is basically going to be everyones best bet. I loved Planetside and played for ever, but havent touched it in years. Its been said that users with an active subscription will be getting into the beta. I was in the original planetside beta but I dont think Ill be re-activating mine just for the beta.

Firefall maybe? Not sure. It's set in an online persistent world. It's 3rd or 1st person shooter. You gather resources and can upgrade weapons, your armor, ect. There are aliens (or something) that are attacking and there will be "events" like the aliens attacking a town and either you defend it or you let it fall but you can then organize a mission to retake the town. Has Borderlands style graphics.

It's not out yet but it looks fun. First MMO type game I'm even remotely interested in. It's free to play though so we'll see if they can make it work.

its got aliens.. supersoldiers that could take MC to class.. never mind terrains and its got tanks and giant mechs to stomp around in.. idk it sells itself.

Someone on here mentioned Earthrise and I checked it out. It's not as big of a name as SW:ToR or other up and coming MMO's, but a lot about it has some good promise. Google it and check it out.

Yeah shame planetside type games don't turn out too well. It was a blast of an experience :(
