Ok, I made a mistake and ordered the 8800gts 640 from evga. I didn't disregard everyones advice, I just had it ordered already... But, I can change to a different card with their step up program and just pay the difference.

So my options are to drop the extra cash and move up to a 8800GTX, wait for a new line release, or just stick with what I've got.

I'm not going to stick with what I've got, hence the creation of this post. There's little to no news on the 9800s except for rumors that they aren't all they're hyped up to be. So anyone have a suggestion?

Either step up to a GTX, return it and get a GT, or cross your fingers for a good 9-series card in 90 days.

Or you could use the GTS for a while, step up to the GTX before the 90 days. That would give you 180 days to wait for a good 9-series.

A 8800 GT 512mb will last you a while and will not cost you much more, don't bother with the GTX as the 8800 GT's as very similar in spec at half the cost.

Since you can only use the step-up program once, I would just wait until some of the 9-series cards are out and then make up your mind. An 8800GT or 8800GTS would work nicely as well.

i just checked evga's website and the price was very high you should return it and get a 8800gt for $100-$140 cheaper or you can get a 8800gts 512mb G92 for a litte bit cheaper than the 640mb

Nothing is official, but talk among reliable sources say that the first of nVidia's 9 series cards will be out around Febuary 14. Wait until then, and at the very least you'll know the absolute release date of the 9 series cards (even if the card isn't out then the date will be). If it looks like a good upgrade, step it up when the new cards come out. If not, step it up to an 8800GTS 512 or an 8800GTX, depending on what you want.
