[QUOTE="TheFragcat"]Is there a V coming out? :shock: I got IV about 3 weeks ago & i love it!Frantz22
They'd be crazy not to make another one.The series sells so well and they have a pretty decent fan base.
I agree with you there mate.
We know it is going to look like arse, since they are aiming for 2010 it is still being built around the exact same console hardware Oblivion and Fallout 3 was.
So much for a hardware leap each TES game.
Sorry Annoyed, as much as I agree with 99% of the things you say I'd have to disagree with that one. Bethesda knows that graphics are the main selling point of their games these days so that's gonna be their #1 priority. But as for an Elder Scrolls V releasing.....god I hope not. I'm still having nightmares about the last one.TheBigBadGRIM
Whatever Bethesda makes it has to also work on Xbox 360 and PS3, like Fallout 3 the PC version will just be a polished version of the consoles art assets. If they build the game around 2010 technology, even prevent day technology in fact, you will have something that won't run on consoles.
For a cross platform game that is unacceptable, everything from level design to poly count has to work across all three platforms. In 2010 a console orientated game on PC will feel like they ported over a PS2 game, it would be like if Oblivion was designed around the same hardware performance Morrowind was; which is essentially what will happen with TES V.
Hope they really don't intend to release within this console generation :( if they continue down Oblivion's rout; graphics will be all it has going for it.
[QUOTE="SEANMCAD"]World sizes from that developer work like this (from largest to smallest) Morrowind Oblivion Fallout 3 This is also in sync with the timeline. I predict by Edlers Scroll VI the world size will be about as big as a multiplayer shooter mapadrake4183Uhhh. This is just not true. Oblivion was quite a bit larger than morrowind. Also fallout 3 is not an elder scrolls game. I am sure Bethesda will make another huge Elder Scrolls game.
From what i remember from the news gamespot gave from that Guinness videogame world record book, Morrowind had the record of biggest world size in a videogame.

this is totally untrue. morrowind is way bigger than oblivion....trust me, ive played both and i know. and even look it up on google.

No, that would be Elder Scrolls 2: Daggerfall.
From Wikipedia (yes, I know it's not the greatest source, but it's right about Daggerfall being the largest):
"Daggerfall is the largest Elder Scrolls game to date, featuring a game world estimated as being 161,600 square kilometres (62,394 square miles or 40,400,000 acres) with over 15,000 towns, cities, villages, and dungeons for the player's character to explore. According to Todd Howard, Elder Scrolls programmer, the game's sequel, The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind is 0.01% the size of Daggerfall, but it should be noted most of Daggerfall's terrain was randomly generated. Vvardenfell, the explorable part of Morrowind in the third game has 15.5 square kilometres (6 square miles). The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion has approximately 41.4 square kilometres (16 square miles) to explore. In Daggerfall, there are 750,000+ non-player characters (NPCs) for the player to interact with, compared to the count of around 1000 NPCs found in Morrowind and Oblivion. It should be pointed out that the geography and the characters in these later games are much more detailed."

If you develop for the consoles first, and then port it to the PC, yes, the graphics will simply be polished versions of the consoles. Though if they develop it for PC first, then the sky's the limit. And from there on, they can strip the graphics down to how low they want it (that "how low you want" would be to suit the hardware specifications of the consoles).

And Daggerfall dwarfed Morrowind.

Wengistein
Then it will be built around a specification consoles may be unable to support.
Remember the Xbox version of Morrowind? Morrowind was a PC to console port, loading times were horrific because of all the information it had to deal with. In Oblivion all cities being in separate cells and the removal of spells to get over barriers are the fault of optimizations for consoles sake, they designed the game that way to work specifically for consoles memory amount when PC has plenty. Even at launch every Oblivion tweak guide out there recommends that you tweak your memory settings, Oblivion just wasn't optimized to utilize PC memory very well.
Remember the 360 version of Quake 4? PC to console ports are always difficult to transfer over, there are factors such as memory and the availability of a HDD that PC doesn't have to take into account.
A game built on consoles is guaranteed to work on PC just by porting it over, you port a PC game to console and there are all sorts of complications. that's why every cross platform game is primarily a console to PC port, it's much cheaper and easier on the developers.
Considering all the shortcuts Bethesda took in Oblivion during its development; I don't see them going out of their way to give PC something nice.

So Oblivion is larger than Morrowind according to this article. It's just logical, however, that as graphics go up, world size goes down. Please Log In to post.
