If you have an ATI 5k or 6k series graphics card, and the latest drivers, there is a setting in CCC called "Morphological Filtering". Under 3d->AA

Basically, with this applied a type of Anti-Aliasing is done as post-processing. This lets you get rid of jagged edges in game that don't have built in AA support (for instance, many Unreal Engine 3 based games, Starcraft 2, Arcania, etc.).

The awesome thing about it being done in post-processing is, not only the very small performance hit, but also it can be applied to absolutelyanygame. It isn't like previous methods of forcing AA, where the engine still had to support it.

I now use this in all games and my FPS have signifficantly increased. I used to use X2 super sample AA at 1920X1080 i now use X8 morphological AA with no perfomance hit and it can be applied to any game.

If you haven't tried this, I serisously reccommend trying. Little to performance hit, FPS Skyrocketing. The link abouve explains everything much better

Any idea of whether or not this overrides any in-game AA. Or can I just leave it on...

I mean it looks great for Need for Speed Hot Pursuit, Borderlands (fairly sure it doesn't have AA) and definitely SC2, but it doesn't look as smooth as standard AA (which is probably why it doesn't use as much resources). However that may just be the rubbish sample picture. Theres almost nothing to smooth on the sample

Yea the sample picture doesn't really demonstrate much. I play at 1920X1080 so there isn't much to smooth there anyway. However by using moprphological AA instead of the AA used by the engine im saving 20-30 fps in BBC2 where i used X4 SSAA and there is very little to no noticible difference in image quality.

when i read about this in the past, I noticed it had an ever so slightly blurry effect to the picture. I cant remember where I saw this though. On the other hand, it seems like a great feature, and I for one wouldnt mind Nvidia making this approach.

Done some reading and for everyone getting blurry text change your AA filter from Box or what ever its currently set to, to Edge Detect.

Ok. So here were my settings:

1280x1024

Max everything in Need for Speed Hot Pursuit

Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit:

Morphological Anti Aliasing On:

Morphological Anti Aliasing Off:

Morphological Anti Aliasing On:

Morphological Anti Aliasing Off:

Maybe Need for Speed Hot Pursuit doesn't work well with this AA, but it doesn't look much better in-game. If anything the menus looked alittle worse. They just looked blurry instead of sharp...

Nothing particually noticable from the screen shots. How do you feel it worked during gameplay ? Like I said earlier, I find this method of AA to be much more efficient at high resolutions as jaggies are less noticble and for the performance increase.

I didn't really notice any real difference. Will try with Starcraft 2 tomorrow if I can be bothered :)

Maybe Need for Speed just doesn't like it. The lack of any AA in Hot Pursuit is just stupid...

I'm pretty sure (from what I have read) screen shots lose any morphological AA effects since it is post-processing. ATI has a utility you can use on screenshots you've taken to get the effect added back on.

This might be why. In menus, turning the AA on made the text look blurred as opposed to just leaving it off. Screenshots looked exactly the same though.

You have standard AA enabled at the same time. Check the box use application settings. MLAA is enabled no matter what the setting for that box is. The only thing that turns MLAA on or off is that box.

MLAA can applied on Media Player Classic Home Cinema's videos since the video surface is also Direct3D.

Why should it matter :?

Need for Speed doesn't have any AA

I have application setting turned on the rest of the time. I didn't see the point of checking it for benchmarking a game that doesn't have any AA in the first place.

Ok mrgrins is correct. The screenshots don't show it. Im not exactly sure where to find this utility though...

At what Morphological settings? Mine just made text blurry looking at 8x Edge Detect. But maybe I shouldn't have turned it up so much.

There is only one setting. On or off.

My regular AA is whatever the game uses, I have that set to "Off" in CCC. I have experienced some minor text distortion but nothing drastic. I can't confirm this but I have heard that higher resolutions experience less blurring than lower resolutions.

You can change the AA multiplyer and the filter:

Perhaps its just Im playing at too lower resolution.

There are my settings. The red and blue box are actually unrelated even though they appear in the same panel.

If regular aa doesnt work then I don't think it makes a difference then. It might reduce preformance.
