Nobody cares. Its a comic book.
I fired up Rome:Total War after seeing it. Someone, somewhere, has to be making a mod for it.     Â

You're an idiot. That's almost exactly how the Battle of Thermopylae played out. They left out the naval battle where the greeks won against the persians because that would have made the movie way too long. But the end is the way the real persian defeat was historically recorded. A huge pan-Greek army was amassed and the Persians were defeated at the Battle of Plataea, just like they said at the end of the movie.

and that battle may be the basis of the sequel, which WILL be happening
Funny thing is, after seeing 300, by coincidence I downloaded and played the Titan Quest demo, and guess what? You are in Sparta, leveling up Diablo-style, until you meet up with Leonidas to ask for aid. Thats where the demo ended.

I think the problem with the movie histical wise (which the movie is not a historically acurate movie by any standards) was the fact they really left out the other greeks in the battle. During the final last stand for instance There was 300 spartans and 1000 other greek soldiers. in the movie however all the other Greeks left leaving only the Spartans. Also King lenidos is not the last Spartan to die but dies early in the final battle. From watching the movie you would not even know that there was 6,000 greek soldiers along with the 300 spartans. You would think there was a small # of greek soldiers who were also there. But enough about discussing the historical accracy of a movie with giant Elephants and Giants Rinos and large monster with a sword as an arm. What about doing this in Rome:total War300 shows how ignorant hollywood is

Their main goal was to be true to Frank Miller's graphic novel "300" and to try and capture the idea of what that battle meant throughout history.
Your correct about the other Greek armies for the most part,  being left out of the story. if anyone is interested in gaining a truier picture of these events, read the book, Gates of Fire, by Steven Pressfield.
I absolutely loved the movie, but the book was awesome ! ........8)Â

Modern day Iran = ancient Persia. Self owned.  Yeah thats the point buddy, this is coming from apparently a extremly bias person about a movie thats based off a comic book thats at best loosely based in histoircal events..
Thats why I said its ironic that this guy is the person to point this out completely changing the subject..
comon lets not start bashing people now. We don't want this thread to get locked. Lets get back on topic. Is there any map of Thermonply. out there I can download?chansaet
Hehe probably but it would be dumb.. You would control one legion and thats it.. Top that off Hoplites in Rome Total War when it comes to defense are horribly overpowered.  I have held upwards to 2k+ invasion forces on cities with less then 500 hoplites..
Persians were white aryans not black africans and king Xerxes the great was not bald and naked come and see ruins of apadana to feel that you are nothing Iran was the first superpower and cyrus the great was first to introduce human rights and now an American scum comes and insults his childrenIranian_Guy
COMIC BOOK, say it three times! I am not normally bothered by this, but the point of the matter is your complaing about it not being historically accurate.. it was never ment to be in the begin with.. And if some how people believe this movie to be fact then they are idiots, get it? No one has argued that the movie is hisotorically accurate.. Quite honestly it should be a rhetorical question: of course its not accurate. And I also find it pretty hypocritical claiming that they were a beacon of human rights when infact they were invading Greece to take it over. All cultures were brutal back then..
Should we start yelling at Spider-Man because its impossible to scale walls like he does or shoot web out of his wrists, because its not realistic?
Anyways back on topic, yeah Greek cities is fun to play.. The only problem I even had with greeks was teh fact that they are pretty two deminsional with weak archeryunits, non existent calvery and just a bunch of phalanxs.   But who needs archery when armored hoplites are immune to archers just about hehe.. You guys ever try the realism mod?Â

lol... Me too, I got a kick out of Leonidas after watching the movie :D
to the people saying it's historically inaccurate, i love how that's your argument - not how it has bizzare, twisted monster warriors or giant fat guys with blades for arms
no, it's historically inaccurate - uh huh
i enjoy realism and authenticity, but 300 was just a brutal piece of beauty - it's based on a graphic novel that's based on the real events - so if anything, complain at miller more than hollywood - or just accept that it's not supposed to be a docuementary, it's a piece of entertainment - a damn good one, too
but yeah, i don't own rome - but watching 300 made me want to reinstall medieval 2 again... i didn't quite manage that yet, but i will do soon!Â
There's an important point here that's being missed. I think Frank Miller is well attuned to the realities of the consumer. In a time when movies of absurd heroism prevail, the real heroism of a massively outnumbered professional army fighing a hopeless battle for the sake of duty and honor would be lost on the elitist channel flippers of today. Any of you who has faced real enemies with real intent to kill would understand the valor, and the homage to that valor that Miller portrays.lokiju
well said
the film suffers from a large number of factual errors, which is understandable, since it's an adaptation of a graphic novel. but if there's somebody out there who thinks he knows all, or even the tiniest bits of the actual history, just because he has watched this mediocre movie, well then.....woe is he.
and if you're willing to look around the internet for the not so subtle pilitical message behind the film, the result would be evident. there's no point denying it.....all that matters is how you take it. now that, my friends, is YOUR responsibility as a rational being.

I see I'm not the only one who's read it. It's a great book, to say the 'least, but remmber that it is (eventhough it's historical) fiction, so the historical accuracy isn't 100%.[QUOTE="DieselCat18"][QUOTE="chansaet"][QUOTE="fractoman"][QUOTE="Iranian_Guy"]

That is true....but the book does give a bit truer historical perspective of what and how things actually occurred, even though it is a story of fiction based on actual historical events. All in all, the movie '300' and the book I referred to 'Gates of Fire' have provided great entertainment for myself. It's also nice to see that this movie has generated discussion amoung gamers for really good RTS/TBS games such as ROME Total War and some others.Â
