Does your JVC receiver have HDMI? If it does, try to use them, and make sure it can support 1080p video (If your TV can) and 6 channels of LPCM. If it does not, my advice replace it if you have the money and get an Onkyo TX-SR606 (605 is the old model, but is still reccomendable.), and what model is your HD DVD player?

I will have to check. But it is the basic toshiba that is like 50 bucks now. I have two hdmi cords coming tomorrow. I will have me ps3 and hd dvd hooked up via hdmi. Currently i have an 12 ft hdmi cord and it crowds the back of my entertainment center. My jvc doesnt have that. I will look at the Onkyo TX-SR605.

get speakers stands to lift your bookshelf speakers and separate them by 10ft (if you can). It will increase your audio sweet spot. as in these diagrams.

You could plug in a Playstation 3, A high def satelite/cable box, a toshiba HD DVD player, and a Home theater PC, all connected via HDMI. The out port send the info to the TV, so AV receivers can be used as switchers (and are better choices), and can process High resolution audio with PCM, Dolby trueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio in HDMI. if you really need more HDMI in ports, you can get an HDMI switcher for more sources, and have it connected to the AV receiver.
