I played demo it was really fun dont try it with a keyboard its too hard to control that way I used my gamepad. Performance is awesome on my e8500 9800gtx 4gb ddr2 1066mhz at 1680x1050 4xAA.Fr0st3d
Ooo..that's quite a machine you have. Do you think it'll run well on my old 8800gts 320mb?(the fatality version)
The GRID demo has accounted for most of my gaming time over the last week. It's pretty arcadey so serious racing fans might want to avoid it, but it is a lot of fun, it runs smoothly on an 8800GTS and it looks amazing.
I'm already sold - can't wait to get the full game.

That's very cool.
I haven't gotten around to trying out the demo, but I was thinking of getting the game anyway. It fits nicely with my plans of world domination by owning any and all PC games, mu ha ha ah...oh wait.
Might need to rethink those plans, but you aren't typically much of a racing fan, right? Or no, meaning yes (you are)?
Arcadey doesn't bother me, I don't really have enough time for deep sims these days anyway :P As long as it's fun, looks and feels great, and works with a wheel -- sounds like a good time.

GRID is literally the first racing game I've played on PC. That's not to say that I don't love racing games (I do), just that I had never thought to try one on PC. I had always felt in the past that racing games were better suited to consoles - but I very much no longer hold to that belief.
Based on what I've played, seen and read about the game, it might well be absolutely perfect as an entry-level racing game for anyone who wants to play a racing game but just doesn't know it yet. But it's also deep, fun, challenging and diverse (from F1 to D1) enough to appeal to anyone with an interest in racing games. Racing nerds will probably scoff at it, though.

I'm surprised how well it's selling on Steam. It seems to be a top seller.

I don't follow Steam sales, but I would assume that all new major games on Steam hit the top seller mark - or thereabouts, anyway. There are a lot of Steamaholics out there, I think.
Anyway, it definitely deserves its position, based on the demo.
I was able to play the demo and I definitely liked it. The mix between simulation and arcade racing is pulled off very well and its is presented great. Although its not a buy for me, because in racers I really like to upgrade my car.
Still the "audio name" feature is awesome, its so simple but when you hearing your name be called in a race is a awesome feeling.

What if I don't have a normal name :(?
in that case, you should legally change your name to john or david.

LOL.
I got the game a few days ago and is reaaally good, for such a good looking game it certainly has low requirements, i can max it out with my 8600 at a good resolution.
Also avoid playing it with a keyboard its reaaaaaaaaaally hard, i stopped playing cuz i kept getting my butt kicked both online and offline T_T. I will resume once i get a gamepad.

I have to disagree with that - I have no trouble at all playing (the demo) with the keyboard. I've won everything on the hardest difficulty level. That being said, a pad is better than a keyboard and a wheel is better than a pad, but I wouldn't recommend anyone with just a keyboard avoid it without at least giving it a shot.
The arcadey nature makes the controls pretty forgiving - especially with the driving aids.
two things: steam does not have a demo for this game, for some reason.
and does the full version of the game support steering wheel+pedals? specifically the saitek r660gt? anyone know? cuz the demo certainly doesn't.
I got this game a few days ago, and i think its probably one of the best PC racing games out there. If not THE best. The singleplayer is quite fun, although fairly simple. You should be able to get through it fairly easy. The selection of cars isnt as big as i thought it would of been. You cant really drive any car you want, you have to choose from 1-10 cars (depending on the event) for each event. That means no drifting with a Mustang, even though its in your garage.
Multiplayer is also really good, i just hope you dont mind getting crashed into. So far, the servers have been filled with rookies, but the game should be pumpin out better drivers soon. The only downside of multiplayer (and pretty much this game) is how much of a choice you dont have. As i said before, the event pretty much chooses the car for you, and there is a lack of tracks. HOWEVER, i just unlocked my Mustang that you can get from the website, so there might be more than there is to see. I wouldnt be surprised if they did downloadable cars/tracks. Maybe even a few patches to let you drive any car you want at any track. The races in multiplayer are alive and kickin, so you wont have trouble finding a race. Although you might have to wait a minute for a race to get done.
Id give this game a 9/10, just because the lack of option. Still a great game, it was (and is) worth every dollar.
Also if you have a gamepad, use it. Its perfect for a controller.
I wish there was a game like this only it was called GRIDLOCK and you spent your time in traffic and waiting at red lights and trying to take detours to get around accidents where people are gawking at police cars on the side of the road because their lights are flashing and they want to see what's going on even though it was just a fender bender and their slowed pace is causing massive traffic buildups behind them and causing you to get to your destination 45 minutes late and costing you 15 extra dollars in gas. Actually, I think I would instead call it "Real Life Road Travel".df853
???
nice sig
I "got" the game last week. It's been a lot of fun, but there is a bit of a learning curve with the keyboard controls, but still not too hard. My first 4 races were restarted becuase when you slam into an AI vehicle you're into the wall.
I'd give it an 8/10 so far, but that may get better. About 3 hours into thr SP, Multiplayer I've yet to really get into.... This game is tight, think of a mix between and arcade and a sim, looks and feels like a Gran Turismo, Forza, GTR.... Plays more like NFS or Project Torque. I also might pick up a gamepad.

DL the new demo, they updated the demo with the 1.1 version, it fixes a lot of problems such as hardware compatibility with a bunch of controllers, steering wheels etc etc.
