The title pretty much says it. I've had Ground Control 2 for a few years, but just broke it out again recently. Man, what a great game. If you haven't played it, it's still worth buying. Play through that and then play World in Conflict. Tell me they're not EXTREMELY similar. Difference is, GC2 came out in 2004!

Ground Control
Ground Control 2
Force 21
World in Conflict

all games based on units you went into the battle with, with no chance to really build any. WiC changed this with points and reinforcement, but essentially its the same thing.

Force 21 is likely my favorite, its an oldie and overlooked but really cool. Its essentially the predecessor to WiC, taking place in a conventional, modern setting. Special satellites have made nuclear missiles obsolete, so people are more comfortable to actually go to war without the threat of nuclear attack. You got tanks, humvees...all that good stuff.

I doubt you can still find it; thankfully I have an old PC Gamer demo disk from like the late 90s with it on there lol

Lol.. Force 21. From 1999, nice. Ground Control 2 has Acquisition points, which are gained at a faster rate by taking strategic victory locations. The only difference between the system in GC2 and WiC is that you immediately get points just for killing enemy units in WiC. I love both games, but might actually like GC2 better. Force 21 is similar, but when I say that GC2 and WiC feel similar to each other, I mean REALLY the same. Hmmm.. I wonder why that might be. ;)

They have the same developer and publisher. And I'd swear that WiC uses the same engine with some spruced-up graphics.

I remember getting GroundControl 1 from Ross for cheap when I was a kid. I loved that game sooo much.

I have GroundControl2, but I haven't really played it because I'm not in the mood for an RTS.

Good timing. I just added multiplayer support for Ground Control, Ground Control: Dark Conspiracy, and Ground Control 2: Operation Exodus to GameRanger last week. The official servers for GC1 were shut down in November last year. The GC2 servers are still running, but then you'd have to struggle with the pain of GameSpy and router problems if you used them.

I played GC for nearly 3 years. It was great.GC2 never did the same trick for me however. Something just didn't feel right.I got sucked in by WiC again but after a year I became bored also.
