I've been playing a lot of TF2 lately and it's nearly impossible to find a server that isn't severely modded. Same goes for CS:Source. When is the last time you could find a vanilla CS server?

I appreciate the modding community and some very good mods for various games exist, but I feel that sometimes it goes too far. Too far being the point when you can't even find the original game anymore.

I'm not a fan of them, but I'm not against them either. I mostly use them whenever I just miss something in the original game. But generally, I just play vanilla and I enjoy myself perfectly.

It's quite easy to find an unmodded TF2 server actually. Mods are optional, for which you have the ability and control to avoid.

Depends on the game, sometimes modifications are needed to fix some really dumb game design decisions.

I agree that it's annoying for TF2, but there's still some servers that are unmodded. My clan's 2 servers are highlander and an almost vanilla 24 slot server. Mods for single player games are amazing however.

Depends on the mod and game... I'm tired of seeing the ENB crap and the HD Textures "mods"... I miss the good old mods... you know when in the old times mods consisted of a completely new game made with the same engine as the core game (HL and it's Bajillion mods). I'm also not a fan of Oblivion mods... except a handful... Nowadays Oblivion and soon Skyrim are gonna be hentai games.

I don't play TF2 anymore.. kinda got tired of seeing it update every day... Plus I was never a huge fan of it. So mods for TF2... I've never played with any D:

I don't like that kind of mods on servers of TF2, CS and so on.

But I love to mod GTA, Prototype and so on.

The 'good old mods' have been increasingly harder to make with how fast technology improves and how much manpower and resources is required to make something of high quality.

I love mods, I love to see mods being made, I love to install and edit them, I hate playing games with mods. The only mods I can stand/play are community patches. Except shooters, I don't consider custom game modes for TF 2 and other games as "mods".

I appreciate them as unofficial patches, 'restoration mods' or performance improvement/graphic optimization tools. I really prefer to mostly avoid them in shooters like TF2.

I like them for single player and rarely for multiplayer. I know what you mean. It's not too easy to find a CS:S server that doesn't force me to download some dumb quake taunts or stat tracking.

CPMA is a great mod for Quake 3, but you're right, there's very few good mods for multiplayer games. Prop hunt is a pretty hilarious mod for TF2, it's basically a new game mode.

Oh man. I finally got around to playing Oblivion and went looking for a mod to tweak my characters appearance so they don't look like playdough people and all I could find was mostly naked cartoon girls. Sheesh.

I usually may willing to give mods a try. However, so many of them are just bad.

If you are going to add content its gotta fit in the game world. So many of the ones I've seen just don't. The best example are a lot of the character appearence mods for Oblivion.

I really don't get graphics mods for games that just came out. One of the first for Skyrim was a texture mod. Why? The game looks great without it. I understand for a game that is five years old but not one that is brand new.

I'm going to play through Skyrim unmodded the first time. By the time I'm done with my first go, there should be alot of good mods out there, and hopefully most will be updated or done...

That is true and Devs don't help either since lately they don't release any tools to mod their games. There are a few that do though, like Blizzard and Bethesda

Blizzard never released mod tools for any of its games to my knowledge. Aside from the Game Editor of SC1/SC2 but you can't make custom skins or weapons in that editor.

I agree. I'm a purist at heart and anything that changes the original experience of a game doesn't sit well with me. I feel the game becomes tainted... As odd as that sounds.

I rarely use them, when I use mods I do that mostly to improve graphics and bug-fixing, other than that, I love my games just the way they are made.

For me it depends, full conversion mods are awesome! I've racked up an ungodly amount of hours playing Half-Life 2 mods over the years & half my Steam list is nothing but Source mods. Enhanced graphics mods I personally don't care for but I can see the appeal.

Online server mods are 50/50, stuff like votemap & rtv should be mandatory for any server, but other things like roll the dice & RPG mods I personally don't like because then the game either becomes random luck or the one with the most hours ends up an unstoppable god tank & not in a "I'm just awesome" kind of way, but rather "I have 10,000 HP & my pistol can insta-gib new visitors" kind of way.

Depends on the game and mod.. seldom do I ever apply mods. Skyrim is like the only game where I use mods and it's not many. I will use a mod if it fixes something that bothers me in a game like "shield on back" or ugly character models. Sprint in open world games like Fallout 3/New Vegas. Little things like that. Graphics mods are always nice only if it stays true to the game's original art style.

They are releasing Art tools when Heart of the Swarm comes out giving the community the ability to create custom 3D models and textures and all that jazz. (I was refering to Starcraft when I mentioned Blizzard.)

You can already do "absolutely" everything in the SC 2 editor, the only thing you can't do is an insanely awesome multiplayer mod, not because the editor doesn't let you, because of the size limit, it's because of that some seem to think you can't do custom models and such when you can, but just not for a mod you plan to publish and play on bnet, only a sp mod that you download from other places and play in a more inconvenient way

I pretty much don't use mods, I find that most tend to eventually break the game and have unforeseen consequences almost every time.

I did use the STALKER complete mods because they made the games look great, and they didn't mess about with the gameplay.
