http://www.direct2drive.com/

I just got Titan quest from them and its downloading as I type this, but I tried to get Immortal Throne, and when I try to check out, its telling me that "Titan Quest: Immortal Throne was removed from your cart due to restrictions."   And I checked thier FAQ about it, and it says to submit a ticket ( which I did, and have not gotten anything back from them yet :(  )

But I am just wondering if anyone has gotten that before and if so how did you get it resolved ?

Thx in advance !

I've used them before, but I have never received that error. Perhaps it needs to detect that the original is installed before it will let you purchase the expansion?

I've dealt with IGN support (for most of their sites including D2D) and other than one occasion it's all gone very well.  The probelm you might end up with is the night time backlog.  The do have staff, but it's limited at night and the go by PST so you may not get a responce until afternoon.  Once your in the ticket system, they tend to work pretty fast as long as you give them full, clear details of your problem.  I've never had the problem your listing here, but I would also suggest that you log into the gamespy forums and ask others.  I used D2D for TQ:IT and didnt have a problem with it.  Good luck and be patient and they will make it right for you.

I was tempted a while back to go for their exclusive HD edition of King Kong cause I love the movie & the demo of the game, so I got the normal retail version of it with a $10 discount from UbiSoft. The graphics are very console like & not up to much.

Has anyone noticed any difference with exclusive games from them that claim to be HD & can you back them up to DVD?

Can you use regular patches on their games & do Trainers work on them? (theres some games once I played them over & over & over, etc; I like to try them out & muck about with them for a bit of fun.

So when u buy the game, what happens if the files get corrupted, or like the game won't install properly, or you need to clean out of your hard drive for some space. Is there a way to unistall the game and get it back? Can you rip the game on to a DVD? Or once the data is gone its gone?

You get an account, and once you buy a game it sits in your account for repeated downloading. I don't remember what the limit is. 3 times, I think.

It's because the publisher called them up and asked to restrict it to North America only. It's annoying being from the UK i cannot use the service for most games.

Most "digital download services" allow a customer to download or activate the software 1-3 times before needing to request a new key or unlock.  At first D2D did this, but for the past year or two they have allowed a customer to redownload the content and activate as often as they want with no hassle.  With the current speed of broad band, it is now a practical method for getting games, even if you need to redownload them.  The customer can backup the install to disc (or span them as needed) with no problems.  The only real issue with this type of service (until the past couple of months that is) deals with game patches.  As I said recently things have begun to change for the better.  In the recent past however you had to get patches mainly from the site you bought it from as the standard patch that the devlopers made would not work because of the security system placed in the game.  Not much of a problem for games that work well and dont require multiplayer ability be based on the same game version.  Most FPS games do require same version hook ups so the digital drive customers would have to wait up to several weeks before a patch would come out for there version.  Again, this has really started to change as of late and most new D2D (and other sites like it) have started using better versions of security engines that all standard patches to work with the digital download version.  I've spent about a grand on digital download games and rarely have problems with it.  I know that my stuff is always there to get again if I lose my real disc and I can get it from anyplace I can get a broadband connection.

Region restrictions have been arround for decades.  You have to assume that it will be an issue for many years to come.  There have been many games I've tried to get before from Europe (or even if a N. American release happens) only to be locked out of a purchace.  The most recent was Alien Shooter 2.  By the time it launched over here I had already had the german version for some time, but it was a real pain.  At least for those in N. America I can off advise on where to to look for imports before a release here.  www.gogamer.com is great.  Good fast and reliable srevice and with extras some times (free T's and such), but a bit on the pricey side.  For the rest of the world, I assume that there is something simillar out there.

I've been deeply considering it, but my computers practically always in pieces and oftenly being reformated so I unless you can backup the installer to disk I probably won't.

Yes, you can backup the files to disc.  Unless it's a fairly large game, I dont bother backing it up as it never takes more than a couple of hours to download several gigs from them.  Once I start seeing a 3-4 gig game, then I consider a backup.Â
