My specs: 2.66ghz Pentium D, 220gb harddrive (60 used up), Patriot 2 gigs of ram (1 stick @ 400mhz), and 7600gt, running on XP sp2.

It's getting quite annoying knowing I have a pretty decent system and only being able to play CSS at only 30-65 fps and and DoDS at 20-50 fps. BF2 runs at a good 30-60 fps (all games on low settings, med textures). I was wondering if it was my outdated processor, or my video card. What do you, other 7600 owners, get fps wise?

And I know it's about time to upgrade, but all my money is focused on college funds, and I'm ashamed to say, Halo 3.

Well I have a 7600gs and max out all those games at 1024x768. What res do you play on? Doing simple cleaning up of the harddrive can help, defrag,spyware/virus scan etc..

Jesus!! CSS at only 30-65 FPS - you must be dieing!!

What are you complaining about? I have a 7600GT and it runs most recent games fine. I really only used it for WoW though - and I got about 50-60 FPS in that. Sure, the card might have trouble with newer games, but it is nearly 2 years old and only a mid-range card so what do you expect?

I play on 1280x1024 (monitor res is 1600x1200).

And yes I forgot to mention, it's dual core. I know many steam games don't take advantage of it. Woul it be better if I set affinity to 1 cpu? Yeah I know I shouldn't be really complaining, considering how old the card is.

That's strange, my 7600GT maxes every single one of those games @ 1280x1024 with 4xAA/16xAF..

CS:S - almost always 60 FPS

Don't play DoD:S, but I'm sure I'd get framerates just like CS:S.

BF2 - 40-60 FPS

Even at stock speeds my 7600GT could do that, overclocked it does a bit better. :)

Maybe it is the processor. I can run CSS at around 30-40 with all settings cranked at 1440x900, and my rig has lower specs than you, except in processor (Athlon 64 3000+, Radeon x700 Pro, 1 GB Ram). Also, it could be the fact it is NVidia. If I recall correctly, Source is optimized for ATI cards.

No, the Athlon 64 3000+ is a beast. This guy has a Pentium 2.66 Pentium D.

Eh, performance difference wouldn't be too significant.. A64 @ 1.8GHz vs a Pentium D @ 2.66GHz, lol. :P

Probably a driver issue.

Pentium D. Wasn't that the first generation of duel cores by Intel? There is a good chance that even though it is a duel core, you may not be using both. Your mobo or OS might be limiting this. I could totally be wrong on this, but I think I remember the D's being released before anything else really supported duel cores.

It might be your ram. If you have 1 stick that is 2 gigs on it then you are probably missing out on the advantage of running two sticks in duel channel mode.

Drivers might need updating.

Try turning off AA and AF completely before turning down other settings. They both tend to slow down graphics cards a lot. They are usually the first things I tune down if a game is running slower then I want.

More than certain this is the driver. (At least the one I use)

Well, I used to have 2 x 512, I recently got the 2 gig stick.

That's the problem, I have my graphics all the way down, apart from textures at medium, and it still dishes out the same terrible fps that I had in my first post.

I have a

EVGA 7600GT overclocked 600/1500

1 gig RAM

Single Core AMD 3800+ @ 2.7Ghz

I max out Half Life 2 @ 1280x1024 with 40-100 fps

Bioshock 1024x768 high settings ( high detail post processing off tho) with 40-50 fps

I think your processer is the cause because all those games don't make use of the two cores so its like having a Pentium 4 2.6 or a AMD 2800+ @ 1.8GHz also update your drivers @ nzone.com Hope that helps and maybe try overclocking the processor

I remember my 7600GT being able to max out all those games you mentioned with 30+FPS. Except BF2/BF2142 when smoke was out.

Your driver is old. Update it at the Nvdia website.
