Although Ed Boon has entertained the idea of a PC version of the latest Mortal Kombat, it isn't actually confirmed.

Who here thinks that it should be ported to the PC?

Personally, I would enjoy seeing a PC version of the game, although as much as I hate to say this, it might take a Team Fortress 2 promotion in order to get the game to sell.

I do, constant 60FPS, better graphics and controller support FTW!

Hasn't been one since MK4 for pete's sakes. I would sell my PS3 version if it happens.

Beat them ups generally don't do that well on the PC, it is just a genre that hasn't really caught on. One of the reasons being you need a joypad which a lot of PC gamers won't have/don't like using. I am not going to say "no it shouldn't come to the PC" because that is just stupid but I will say "I understand the reasons for it not being on the PC".

As for me it certainly isn't a game I would buy at full price, I don't get enough out of beat em ups to warrant a 60 buck price tag. So even if it was released on the PC I would wait till it was going extremely cheap in a steam sale before I picked it up.

I totally would buy it on PC. Especially if people could mod/hack it for different characters and stages. But yeah, it wouldn't do well considering a joypad would be a must-have.

I still have yet to understand one legitimate reason. Your example of PC gamers not having or not wanting to use a controller is based on opinion and lacking merit.

Beat them ups.

But, seriously, I think it should. Every really competitive player in the fighting genre owns a fightstick for a console, which can be used on the PC. If not, controllers are pretty cheap and a large percentage of PC gamers do have some kind of gamepad, as a lot of games just feel better with one. (i.e. Super Meat Boy)

Erm no it isn't poll after poll of PC gamers consistantly show that they use Mouse and Keyboard over a joypad. You could do a poll here and I would bet most would vote they do their gaming on the PC with the mouse and keyboard. The main reason being it is the standard control scheme for the PC just like the joypad is the standard control scheme for the console. I bet if all games on the console were enabled to use mouse and keyboard tomorrow you would still find the majority of users would use a joypad rather than use the mouse and keyboard because the joypad is standard on the console.

I am not trying to get into a debate over which control scheme is superior. I am just stating a fact that the mouse and keyboard is the standard control scheme on the PC and that is what the majority of PC gamers use and it happens to be a pretty crappy control scheme to play beat em ups with.

The reason that I pray for MK9 for PC is that I, like many others, do not own a PS3 or an Xbox 360. I have fond memories of the series from MK1 - MK Trilogy and this version appears to pay homage to that style of play. I want to play this game so much that I would gladly overpay for it. However, I cannot play it unless I buy a console.. and that would be overpaying too much - even for this game. I have an Alienware pc that costed thousands, why should I have to purchase a console for one game? Ed Boon, pretty-please, with a cherry on top, port this to pc.. It would be a sign of your "FRIENDSHIP" to the fans.

Mouse and Keyboard are most used because they are the standard controllers on the PC. This doesn't mean that all PC gamers don't want to use gamepads. Infact I find it hard to believe there are many PC gamers who play "console-type" games on their PC with a mouse and keyboard rather than a gamepad.

It's true, however, that fighting games aren't a regular guest on the PC. Consoles are a much better market for them.

If it's really just this one console game that interests you I can understand you not willing to buy a console but if you're interested in more console games (especially exclusives) than it can be well worth it (unless you demand the best possible graphics).

Street fighter 4 sold well on pc even with the piracy threat. now with the new SSA(server side authediation) GFWL antipiracy system pirates will not be able to play online so the game will sell much more on pc. Also SFX Teken is also confirmed for pc. So so far we have 2 fighting games coming to pc from a Japan developer capcom! Who could imagine that the first developers who will start releasing fighting games on pc will be a japan company?? Capcom made lots of money in sf4 pc and they will make a lot more with SSF4 AE! SSF4AE is coming in 2 months from now. So my friends patience for 2 months! Then i will beat you all online with my Krang SF4 mod !!! I realy can not wait until i meet you online for some fighting! i am waiting for you in GFWL! :) i will buy SSF4AE day one on pc of course

I am honestly not that interested with fighting games on console.. They are never the head of the community.. The pc gaming rarely if ever has split screen co op or competitive play.. Its one of the few generes that I feel to be far better on the consoles at this time.. And I think better graphics are quite meaningless.. The game looks amazing as is on consoles.. Sure it may look alittle better on the pc, but I don't see that as a real factor in me deciding which to get.

I hope that Ed Boon isn't reading this forum thread, as there are too many of you saying you wouldn't want a pc port. What's worse, most of the members that are saying "no" to the pc port are actually console owners who can allready enjoy this game. Easy for a person who has 360 or PS3 to say they don't need a pc version - seeing as it has no effect on their life whatsoever. Those of you fortunate enough to own one of the consoles it's released on: Stop voting down us pc users' chance at being able to play it!!! If it were a pc exclusive - I wouldn't vote against it being ported to the console. Everyone should get to enjoy what could be the best MK ever made, not just those who have enough extra money to afford fancy new consoles every few years.

no, we need a little segregation between platforms. Let consoles keep fighting games, sports games, and party games.

no why? pc is more powerful. sf4 pc version is so much better than console version not only because of better graphics but also because of mods. i have 360 but i prefer playing on pc because it has better graphics mods e.t.c. pc version of street fighter 4 will be 10000 times better than console version

this. SF4 sold very well on pc thanks to online. online is very popular on pc as you said fighting is mainly online these days. so no reason to not bring them on pc. i can find players on sf4 pc evry day at any time of the day and it is a 2 years old game. when ssf4 ae pc will be released i will be playing evry day. At least capcom is better than Ed boom: not only they release ssfae on pc but SFXteken pc verison is also under consideration at this time. MOARTAL KOMBAT Seriously this game needs a release on PC. I just bought the PS3 version to play on my dad's ps3 to hold me over until I can buy a PC release version. So Ed Boon, that's right, I'm willing to support your game twice, that's how much I love and enjoy this game.

I would love to have that on pc, I myself will not own another (very unreliable 360) and I don't want to pay for a ps3, (since Wii2 is just around the corner and we were thinking of getting a Wii anyway, so we will wait on the 2nd)\

That being said, the option to play this game on pc would be phenomenal, I have 2 360 controllers, one wired, and one Onza, I have 2 people in this house that loves Mortal Kombat, and another that I think will really like it....

And one last thing... I am so sick of hearing people say fighting games don't work as well on the pc. How is the experience any different? But controllers aren't standard on PC. Sure it's great that we have the option but most people won't buy a controller just for a fighting game, when their keyboard and mouse is already working perfectly for everything else and playing with a controller would be a downgrade.

"Most people won't buy a controller just for a fighting game." First off - Most people don't have to buy one, because they allready own one. And for those that don't allready own a pad for pc use - it's not a bad thing for them to buy one. They won't regret their purchase after they see the hundreds of games on their pc that they can use it with. And if they play emulated classics like SNES and Playstation - they now have a nice controller for those as well - authenticating that experience. Playing with a controller is an upgrade except for in fps games - the only people who prefer mouse and keyboard are pc fan-boys who grew up playing pc and suck with a pad because they didn't grow up playing console games like the rest of us. The other people who prefer mouse and keys are those fps guys who get used to the silly keyboard control in order to have the advantagious mouse-speed precision aiming in their shooter games, (which is fine - but just because mouse beats pad in fps, doesn't mean the pad isn't a must-have for all the other games a man plays). Yes there are guys who are so messed up in the head that they refuse to get a control pad for their pc gaming pleasure - their loss - doesn't mean that fighting games have no place on the pc. Like I said earlier - a good pc with a good control pad = The EXACT same experience you'd get on a console, so give us any games you can imagine - we can handle it.

For those who say, "Let the consoles keep fighting games", That's like saying: "Ford cars are not allowed to have cd players because when Ford began back in the old days.. cd players weren't available as a standard option - But when Kia was created, cd players existed and were a standard option; So, ALL Kia's get cd players and NO Fords are allowed to have them." See how silly that sounds? Every car manufacturer offers cd players - they don't tell you that you have to buy a whole new car made by someone else if you want one. Likewise - Everybody who has a system that can run MK9, be it pc or console, should have it made available to them, not be told that they have to buy a whole new system made by someone else if they want it. Supply and Demand = Give the people what they want. Everybody owns a pc anyways - not everybody owns a PS3 or 360, so the profit is there to be had.

Here is a list of 'some' of the fighting games I currently enjoy on my pc: EVERY Street Fighter game ever made including Alpha 3 (my fav). All the Mortal Kombat games I like (except MK9 - yet), including MK1, 2, 3, Ultimate, and Trilogy in Arcade perfect versions. Soul Callibur 1, and 2. Tekken 1, 2, 3, and 4 and 5 might be playable on my PS2 emu - haven't checked.. Marvel vs Capcom 2 - (along with all the other marvels) in arcade perfect versions. Let's see.. what else? I guess I could start mentioning all the obscure titles like - guilty gears and darkstalkers and mugens and old things like primal rage and samurai showdown and Killer Instinct and - well.... anything you can imagine really - If you can think of a fighting game - I can probably play it on my pc - with a control pad - on a big tv.... The ONLY thing missing is this new Mortal Kombat - So you can imagine my interest in adding this to my collection via pc-port. So in essence - my pc is more of a fighting game machine than your console - can your console play almost every game ever created without ever having to get up? The only thing messing up this perfect "All in one" gaming machine I have is: when they release console exclusives for the 2 consoles that aren't emulated yet.... which I can understand why some prefer to release a console exclusive title - But Boon hinted at a pc release - so there is simply an interest in seeing that come to fruition.

The fact of the matter is this.. Fighting genre like the RTS genre for pc's, has been well in the console camp.. Its not just about controls or features.. Just the overall community.. The fact of the matter is 2 decades of fighting games has grown on the console platforms, and not the pc's.

You do make a good point - I guess what you're saying is that allthough there are those like me who make my pc into a full-fledged gaming machine that excells in providing the complete gaming experience, having all titles available to me - there is still the vast majority of dumb people who don't know how to do any of that - and there are not enough pc-only fighting game guys out there to make it worth Boon's while... Sad, but true.

In a perfect world: We would all have only one powerfull console that is allways upgradable, that has every game ever made on it - and gets every new game that is ever made, and all of those games are available at the click of a button - and can be enjoyed on a nice large tv in HD, and can be played using any kind of controller or device that suits your mood, and it can also play any kind of audio and video file including FLAC and Blu-Ray, and can burn cd's and dvd's and, and can open any kind of application, and can handle any new program, and can seemlessly use the internet, and can download just about anything in the world, and is fully customizable in looks and performance, and is portable, and can - .... Oh Wait! This wonderfull All in One thing allready exists! It's called 'My Laptop'! And the one thing it's missing? Mortal Kombat 9! GERRRR - My Laptop is hungry! So why do we need the consoles any more when this All in One miracle machine exists? Because they produce 'console exclusives' to manipulate you into buying their latest console every few years so that rich guys get even richer.

One more thing: Yes, I know that despite the advantages that make the pc a better gaming system than the consoles, the consoles are still needed to fight piracy in order to keep the gaming scene alive. For instance - I can't emulate the Xbox 360 yet - so I can't just download 360 games and play them on an emulator. And if a game isn't released on the pc - I can't just download the .iso and the crack. Allthough there are those who can make bootleg 360 games - not many can, so the console exclusive games are the best way for the developers to keep their profits and avoid piracy of their property as best they can. And allthough that takes away console-less guys' opportunity to buy their game - It also avoids making a pc game just to see it pirated. Piracy - I love it because of all that it gives me, and yet - Piracy - I hate it for what it does to the gaming industry. What can I do? It's kindof like cars that produce carbon monoxide - We can't stop using them because we love them, but we know they are hurting the environment... The answer to ending piracy is not to tell people to stop doing it - but to stop the ones who make it possible. Why can't they just take down the piratebay? With no more way to pirate - there will be no pirates... Then they can release games on the pc without the fear of piracy which would hurt their pockets.

Well I'm not gonna hold my breath... if they wait a year to do the PC version, they might as well just save it and make MK10 on PC instead.

And I'm thinking about getting SSF4AE for PC, but the DLC version for consoles is coming out on the 7th of June.. SSF4AE for PC is coming out in July or something. So if you want to play SSF4AE right away, PC is not much of an option unless you're buying it as a second copy :)

I own a PS3, and have no incentive to buy it, so don't really care....

DISCLAIMER: the views and opinions contained in this post are that of oldstarscream - Not Ed Boon. The following is a fictional letter from "Boon" to the fans based on what I would say to the fans if I were him. Dear MK fans, In my consideration to release MK9 on the pc I have determined that it would not be in the best interest of either myself, nor of all those involved in this project. It's more difficult to distribute, promote, and protect pc releases in comparison to console releases. In fact, many game shops do not carry pc games anymore - suggesting a decline in demand. Game shops which are very helpfull to the creators by making the advertisement and distribution of our product their top priority. Furthermore, the widespread abuse of piracy that is practiced in the pc gaming market has not spread as large into the console market, heavily affecting our decision. "FRIENDSHIP" Ed Boon

In addition to the points I made during my previous post - there are more reasons why it's good business to release as a console exclusive. When you make it a console exclusive, not only do you avoid the pitfalls of pc game piracy, but you also increase your overall sales by creating scarcity. Creating scarcity increases demand for not only your product - but it also increases the demand for the console on which it is released. Thereby pulling in those who have previously reserved their investment in the console. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if there existed some under-the-table 'incentive' to release big titles as console exclusives.

Sure it may look alittle better on the pc, but I don't see that as a real factor in me deciding which to get.sSubZerOo
Do you know what a fighting game is? Afterall, your real factor in deciding which to get is: "The pc gaming rarely if ever has split screen co op or competitive play.. " Since when do you play Mortal Kombat split-screen, or co-op? And competitive play? - That's all that Mortal Kombat is - competitive play against either cpu or 2nd player who does not need a split-screen to be fighting you!

Hey guys, you're not alone in this plight, there's more people asking for a PC version of the game over at the Mortal Kombat forums, myself included. I strongly urge you to post there aswell, as they are probably the only boards Netherrealm is actively watching.

MK forum:
http://boards.themortalkombat.com/community/viewforum.php?f=5&sid=1f8dfb13cb820fbd962fe9d57ddaa997

MK PC thread:
http://boards.themortalkombat.com/community/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=1461

I'm afraid we'll have to turn up the volume if we want a PC version. As said before, Ed Boon has talked about it but there are no concrete plans for a port. Even though it would be a win-win for both the studio and PC gamers.
Thanks and have fun!

Even though this is just your opinion, I cannot find any kind of "Fail, so much fail, facepalm, WTF" or any kind of meme insult picture great enough to express how much is wrong with your post. I could go through and explain without fault, everything that is wrong with what you listed, by from the sounds if it you might as well be a consolite; who would in turn, ignore everything I say.

Plus its not Boon's decision what to release it on. Its WB's decision since they are the publisher.
