I just new finish Silent Hill 4:The Room (and I got the worst ending!!)
I think the game is too intense. It less entertaining (esp in the near of the end) because its like you can't enjoy the game, you must fully consentrated to not to get killed!!!
Anyway because I'm a SH fans, for me it's acceptable :D Can't wait for the fifth...
A few off the top of my head:
Doom 3 - Disturbing, needed to turn the sound down to finish the game
F.E.A.R. - Better game overall than Doom 3 but not nearly as disturbing, very intriguing game, suspenseful
Condemned: Criminal Origins - Another great game, had it's freaky moments
Cold Fear - Haven't played very far into this one, but looks promising, awesome enviroment (on a ship)
I love horror games...... but I get scared, nightmares, and hearing things after playing. thinking that someone behide me with a bucherKnife gonna cut me, stab me or somethin'. but I love the horror games anyway..... it's not Halloween yet. so I wont be playing until then.

System Shock 2 was great...you had all the logs from the dead passangers as you tried to fight your way through the incoming invasion of the Many, and they all looked so distrubing and scary that the game made me jump every five minutes. The gameplay was great, too: a combination of RPG and FPS.
Simply put, System Shock 2 pwns all.
Have always loved horror games since the origional silent hill and resident evil. Most recently i have played Condemned: Criminal Origins and have had a great time in that game. Also very excited for Bioshock.
About Silent Hill 2, I think Silent Hill 1 is better than this. More scarry, creepy, sadistic...
But Silent Hill 1 is too short, so on this spot Silent Hill 2 is better ;)
Believe it or not, after I finished SH1 I fell kinda sad. I feel like I MISS Lisa Garland soo much...!!!!! And it bothering me for 2 days. Damn, what an impact eh.
What about STALKER?
I tried it once but I fell kinda disturbed by the bad languages used all the times.. Is this game really worth to try?
Have you heard anything about System Shock 3? I read a short article the other day that they're developing or will be developing SS3 soon.Don't know if its true or just the rumor mill.System Shock 2 was great...you had all the logs from the dead passangers as you tried to fight your way through the incoming invasion of the Many, and they all looked so distrubing and scary that the game made me jump every five minutes. Absolutely, but there are very few titles I'd consider truly horror.
Honestly, I think the greatest horror titles aren't even from this generation of games.
The first Silent Hill was, especially, a truly intensely atmospheric and disturbing horror title.
Resident Evil II & III: Nemesis would be the other two that I'd say have been truly the other best in terms of "true" horror titles.
I'm still waiting for someone to start and/or continue development on a true, full-out zombie title that's done right in terms of atmosphere and non-linearity. I can dream, I suppose.

Basically that's Bioshock; the games (I hear) are very similar and made by the same people. As for the name itself, EA has the licence, so I doubt it.
The best horror game is Undying. Nothing can scare you as using the scry spell on a room and hearing how someone is killed with a Pool cue. Very disturbing
In a close second place, we have System Shock 2. The logs were VERY VERY disturbing (remember the one on which the doctor is doing the autopsy on this guy that had one of those worms attached to it, and it comes back to life and kills everyone???)
And, for me, Doom 3 takes the 3rd place.
