It was so epic compared the current BF games. It just had so much variety; epic Naval maps such as midway complete with carriers destroyers battleships, subs etc. Epic tank maps such as Operation Aberdeen, Gazala etc, Epic infantry maps; stalingrad, berlin, caen. Epic Air maps; battle of britain, coral sea and there there were the maps that had everything in it at once. It was just so refreshing one moment you could be in a round where your battleship is dualing an enemy ship with both crews manning the guns and the next round you could be in a fighter plane dogfighting. There was no other game like it, now BC2 the latest BF game is just infantry battles with 1 or 2 vehicles thrown in and no planes or ships at all as well as everything being in a smaller scale due to the player limit.

No Battlefield game has held a candle to it. Vietnam wasn't really memorable, BF2 was a laggy peashooting noobfest, could give a damn about BC2. I'm crossing my fingers for BF3, but I'm sure it will flop in my book. Oh yeah, Desert Combat ftw.

I'm a huge fan of the entire series. Loved 1942, and battlefield 2 as well as all the expacs and such. BC2 is my least favourite except for the ever famous Bad Company. Which was terrible IMO.

Bf2 was my fave - id love a proper remake.

Red orchestra isn't bad though when it comes to filling the void.

yeah it was pretty epic. i still think BF2142 is the best yet. it's like a fixed BF2, but have to say i don't like the future-theme as much. BF2 is good too, but the overpowered vehicles force to play on infantry-only servers. i also like BC2 even that it has come pretty far from the series, but then again, it's Bad Company. i hope BF3 brings back the huge maps.

BF 1942 was amazing (along with the Desert Combat mod). Massive tank and infantry battles were my favorite part of the game because I didn't care much for the naval maps and I am a terrible flyer :)

BF 1942 was my favorite of the series. I always loved the scale of the game and the constantly changing warfare. BF2, was good and I loved BF 2142 for the sci-fi side/titan battles. BC2, while it is fun and all it feels more like an arcade shooter then a proper BF game.

I used to love playing the map Wake Island on BF2. The map was from Battlefield 1942 and then someone made a replica of it for BF2. Good memories :). I remember my squad and I parachuted behind enemy lines and had to keep ourselves alive before the frontline was able to distract them.

BF1942 pretty much blew me away when it came out and I thought it even outshined BF:V and BF2...but BC2 blows it out of the water in almost every regard. With that said BF:1942 has secured a place in gaming history for sure :)

1942 will prob be the faveourite of the series of all time, my mates have never played the old ones and have only player bad company 2, wich is such a sellout from the traditional games, bot v bot action in conquest maps, thats how it should be. i think vietnam was pretty good still it kept the same kinda feel but in a newer setting and id say better guns, only problems with battlefield 1942 are sniper headshots seemed impossible to me even if they were dead still and so was i, but i guess i prefered rolling up that hill on omaha beach in my brand new tank and getting 20 kills in one shell muahahahahaha...but i totally agree bad company 1 was so terrible with its bad control movevent and aiming terrible boring guns and really really bad sound effects it made games not about being an awesome experience to being able to nock down trees and blow up houses....dull and repetitive

Omaha Beach...Oh my god the nostalgia. I wish they would do a remake of 1942. Best mutliplayer FPS I have ever played. Spent so many hours between the vanilla game and Desert Combat. Sniper headshots were indeed hard to pull off but oh how satisfying they were. I wish I could travel back in time.

I do miss the game and especially the Desert Combat Mod. My order of how good the BF games have been (excluding expansion packs):

BF2 = BF1942 > BFV > BC2

I do. I remember seeing some creenshots in a Swedish PC magazine, there was one of simply a sniper scope with the crosshair on a german sitting in a tank (the hatch open, him up there etc). Generic as hell? Yeah. Had I see anything quite as awesome looking at the time? Hell no! Goddamn nostalgia.

This was one of the best themes ever made for a game.

It just screams epic.

Im confused by this. How did BC2 blow your mind in every regard more than bf2 or 1942 sans destructible (building part disappears behind a wall of smoke) environments? It looks somewhat better than bf2 but that is arguable given that the MP level design blows compared to the variety that bf2 offered (same 5 buildings in all of BC2 mp just randomly placed). The maps are smaller, the combat is less strategic, the game somehow has worse hit detection than bf2, less class variety, less teamwork, less vehicles, less playercount, less uniqueness. yada yada yada. Now you have guns that take half a clip worth of HITs to kill and medics with LMGs 0_o...

I severely hope you are joking. If not you are sick and messed up or something. 1942 = 64 person, epic battles, land and sea, multiple classes, dozens of maps, different fronts 1943=32 people, small battles, limited classes, unlimited (...) ammo, garbage generic gameplay, 3 maps? 1943 is NOTHING like its predecessor, its more of a tech demo for the frostbite engine...

Did that P.O.S 1943 ever get released? I stopped caring about it after they postponed that garbage for like 2 years.

Having both land and sea really set 1942 apart. Remember taking off from the carriers with your jet in the Japanese island maps and then flying to the enemy carrier and bombing the crap out of it until it sank? My friends, that is what we call epic.

I miss it more then I could ever say. My all time favorite online fps shooter. No other game, not even other BF games could compare. Every gameplay thing about it was perfect. Was fully balanced. Unlike BF2 where helos and jets rule everything.
