Maybe its just nostalgia, but I see all these shooters that are flooding the market MW/BO, BF, Crysis, MoH etc...and they all feel stale now. I have a hard time getting into any of these games (except for BF3). Even when there were a ton of WWII shooters, I enjoyed most of them. BF 1942 and CoD2 are still one of the best online games I have ever played and the campaign of Brothers In Arms RTH30 was legendary. If not a completely new game I would still love a new BF 1942 game done with BF3 tech. So anyone else miss the WWII theme or is it just me?

Not really, Red Orchestra 2 is scratching that itch for WWII games well enough for me at the moment.

I certainly do. Whenever I miss that old WW2 vibe I like to play Brothers in Arms. (Greatest WW2 game ever imo.)

Yes, I want WWII to become the new "modern" theme, but it will be hard because of people like this:
Not really because before modern warfare games people were saying 'there's too many WWII games'. Go figure. biggest_loser
The irony is that this "saying" started happening when CoD 1 and 2 were the most popular FPSs and they also had their competition Brothers in Arms developed in a similar way, people started saying that because all they knew were these two shooters when in fact there barely are any WWII shooters, we got tens of modern FPSs every year in the last decade (close to 2 decades), MW changed nothing except making developers create hundreds of mediocre modern shooters every year. Till and in the early 90's shooters tried something new every time, since the middle of the 90's all we've been getting are modern games, with the occasional successes that are from other periods, fantasy, or totally unique.

I want some WWII shooters with modern tech. Something a bit slower paced like RO2 but has the destruction and scale of BF3. That would be awesome.

I do. They make me feel sort of like I'm really there, and most modern shooters are too generic for that.

No. There's hundreds of WW2 shooters that I could replay if I did. Modern military is just as bad nowadays though.

Just coming out of a whole decade's worth of WWII games, I still don't miss them. Unfortunately, now all the shooter game companies are giving us another whole decade's worth of modern warfare games. You all (pc and console gamers) keep buying this stuff on day one at full price, so they keep selling the same stuff.

Gone are the days when developers used imagination to create games with unique and varied levels. With all these games set in only one time period, all they have to do is make levels of real places and they are done. No imagination required.

Okay, did you also take into consideration the hundreds of modern shooters that range from behemoth to known, not to mention the, probably, thousands that are not popular, extremely small or F2P?

The technical limitations won't allow you to post all of them on an entire thread, it will be taken down before you manage to write all of them because it'll reach the limit allowed for posts.

Really, WWII shooters only have just 7 popular series, a few notable names and some other mediocre towards terrible titles? it's actually a lot worse than I wrote it seems, not the other way around, you're also posting quite a lot of games that were made exclusive to certain platforms (CoD mostly, you should have kept it simple, CoD 1, 2 and an expansion).

I did however, forgot to mention MoH, it together with BiA and CoD made WWII popular for a few years then disgusted people with its mediocrity (BiA and MoH, especially MoH).

Who cares about the quantity? BIA, CoD2, BF 1942, MoH AA are better than any modern shooter to come out (CoD4 comes close though)....and yes the sequels got old but with today's new tech, even a remake would be incredible.

Ah Original COD days, where you couldnt shoot through walls and everyone didnt have fancy weapons with lasers attached to them, oh dear god what have you become!

Battlefield 1942 still beats any BF game that has come out since (in my opinion).

Yes i still very much miss them. Cant stand all these modern day or futuristic games.

BF 1942 has that comic book approach to WWII. Everything is so exaggerated in one direction or another. It's great because of that.

I was never a fan of modern shooters and still don't play them that much. I just find the tech of the modern age makes the games seem less challenging and I get bored quickly. I mean any gun can be equipped with scopes, grenade launchers or other trinkets and I think that just takes away my enjoyment. At least with the WWII games you had iron sights and the one rifleman class with a scope or the bazooka guy with a pistol.

Umm, it's the point of this thread?

You don't just thank the world because you have 1 game with the theme you want, that can give birth to a lot of great games, when a single theme gets thousands, just because that 1 games was of a higher quality.

Maybe you can, but I personally can't replay great, old, WW2 games, I can't even replay CoD 1 or 2 anymore and those were by far my favorite FPSs.

You're using it wrong, the word quantity, there is no quantity here and in terms of quality, entertainment of something isn't endless, not even the greatest books in history that you can pass off as world treasures can be "experienced" endlessly with the same excitement, games are even worse when it comes to that, especially for people that only replay games they though were outrageously good, even then, not more than 3 or 4 times (I'm that kind of person, I don't do "replays" almost at all).

No one is talking about replaying those games, that's why I want new WWII games or remakes with new engines...and quantity isn't a big deal as it's not like you ONLY play WWII games, atleast I didn't. I played the good ones that I have listed above and would enjoy some more quality ones and not play a medicore game just because it's in WWII.

Oh I understood it wrong, no, I wasn't saying we need a lot of games, just one or two quality WW2 FPSs every few years. As for FPSs in general, TPSs too, there's pretty much just one single title every two years that I enjoy a lot, no matter the theme, modern warfare is used in every FPS and TPS devs make these days, but the theme doesn't make the good or bad quality of the game, for that reason I never wanted more WW2 games, I want more WW2 quality games.

Agreed...good modern warfare games are pretty rare now though. Nothing really surpassed CoD 4, BF3 is okay but it still feels too "consolized". I don't think we will see that high quality of a game until the next gen of consoles. Almost every developer is trying to cater to the console market and when your lead platform is a 6-7 year old hardware...you can't really expect much.

I would like some WW2 games that aren't FPS shooters. Maybe a stealth game or a naval strategy game. WW2 FPS are way over done, I am looking forward to Medal of Honor 2.

Passion Leads Army is an upcoming WWII game but is from China's point of view
