Anyone tried Star Trek Online for the first time - since it went F2P ?

I have and I must say I like it alot. I've never been a Star Wars fan but I did enjoy Star Trek TNG when I was younger and DS9 a bit so I know a bit about the different races and stuff which I suppose add an extra layer of interest for me but I like the ground and space combat.

I do think it has a steep learning curve but nothing that the Wiki hasn't sorted out for me. It's the first PC only MMO I've been in to (Tried the trial of WOW and found it a bit boring. Played DC Universe on PS3 for a while) I find STO to get off to a good pace story wise quite quickly and it's got me hooked.

Anyone here played it long term and got bored with it? If so why?

Anyone just not plain like it and prefer another MMO or just don't like MMO's in general?

I've been really tempted to try it seeing that it is now F2P, but didn't know if it was worth the risk. Still tempted to give it a go though, the temptation is like a bad itch, just won't go away! At least I'll for sure I guess if I just try the bloody thing. I think it was the space combat that put me off a bit, Is it any good?

Yeah, never been a MMO person at all until I tried Star Trek Online. Huge maps, greatly varied planets, space combat fun, sooooo much content is amazing. Many things to do and keep track of, lots of management.

This game is deep and total non-consolitus to the max. HUD and UI are the best I've used since System Shock 2, actually I think its the best I've ever used, Seems like every aspect is configurable.

I wish ground combat was 1st person but the ability to pause and issue commands works better in 3rd person so it makes sense even if I don't prefer it.

Totally amazed at how awesome this game is and its free!!

Yeah, I'm really enjoying it. I just need to get a good control set-up for the space combat. I haven't found one that feels quite right to me just yet. I'm really thrilled with the new ground combat being 3rd person action compared to that standard MMO crap.

It's a great game that has come a long way since it's launch. I'm enjoying it, it's a pretty deep game once you get into it.

I'm a pretty huge Trek fan but the bad reviews put me off. Figured it was just another case of a publisher trying to cash in on an existing fanbase and delivering a bastardized product that was rushed. Was I wrong?

It's Free now, try it. You can't always believe reviews people give it and not everyone likes the same things.

Yeah, especially if you're a Trek fan. The space combat is pretty great - the ground combat gets to you after a while, though the 'shooter' control scheme makes it more fun.
