When I heard about APB back in like May i was pretty excited because it looked pretty cool and had a good concept. When June rolled around and i saw the reviews and Giantbomb's Quick look i was pretty put off by it and decided not to buy it. So is anyone, especially those who bought year or long subscriptions mad? Also how or will they refund those people?

You would think the least they would do is give out the server files so users can still host servers themselves and play with their friends. But greedy companies only think of themselves. That's why they failed anyway with their pay per hour crap.

Where is the article saying the servers are shutting down? I know the company went bankrupt but theyre keeping a skeleton crew to keep the servers running afaik. Also I thought the game was being bought by someone. o

Oh i guess it is true. I just wish they scrapped their "game" and sold the customisation to another game. APB had the most amazing customisation even. I spent hours in beta just making a character and stuff. If theres any chance to get just that as a game it would be cool to mess around with.

I am upset about how much potential this game had, and how it all went to waste due to poor development; resulting in the collapse of Realtime worlds.

I played the beta and it was horrendously bad. I could not imagine how they could change it into a good game by launch time and they didn't.

The APB plot thickened this morning with a new report that suggested Epic Games may buy the luckless online game. The Gears of War maker was "one of the companies in the frame", the BBC heard from a source. Epic's non-denial stirred the pot further. "Mark [Rein - Epic VP] absolutely loves APB, and everyone here loved what they saw," said spokesperson Dana Cowley. "We've got our hands full of Gears of War 3, Bulletstorm and the recently announced Project Sword. If any talks like that are going on, then they would be confidential." Epic Games supplied the Unreal Engine 3 technology that APB was built upon. But the friendship didn't stop there: Epic's Mark Rein even demoed APB to a PAX audience last year. APB creator and Realtime Worlds founder Dave Jones is believed to have relocated to the US. Coincidence? A Dundee development source told Eurogamer last night: "Dave Jones and Epic is quite the talking point in town. He and Mr Rein are good chums and have worked together on many levels for years and years and years. And he's not going to raise much money/staff here in the near future." Should the news hold water, the question will be why Epic has waited this long to make its move. Yesterday we heard that administrators will pull the plug on APB servers within 24 hours.

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2010-09-17-epic-games-may-buy-apb-report I don't see why they want to salvage this wreck.. but hey, whatever floats their boat.

That showed alot about the company and they didn't even give their costumers warning. Even Hellgate removed the pay stuff and let people play for awhile or Tabula rasa made it free till the end.

Man pay 50 for a game that goes after a few months kinda looks like fraud to me, surprise they don't get sued.

I thought the exact same thing. Wonder if there ToU has something to protect them from this "Cut and go" treatment. They should have went free, let the game go open source so people could provide the game on their private servers, or atleast gave players a warning. Something does see very sketchy on all of this. Maybe epic will buy it and let it die a natural death like other MMO's in the past.

Probably not... Most MMOs or any online game for that matter has a little "protect their ass clause" somewhere in the fine print of their End User License Agreement that says "We can shut this game down and deny service to anyone for any reason at any time without warning."

EDIT: Yep...

"18.1.4 You agree that RTW will not be liable for any inability to access your APB Account or any interruption of the Game, arising in these circumstances and in such circumstance you will not be entitled to a refund on any unused RTW Points that remain on your APB Account."

That coupled with a lot of other "we are not liable for anything" clauses...

I'm not disappointed... I'm glad.

There's way too much garbage being released for PC. I wish it all failed as hard as APB has.

Well, since pretty much NOBODY is playing the game, which is why it is shutting down, then I don't many people are too upset about it.

It never looked all that interesting too me, so I have no reason to be upset. However, I can totally sympathise with the people who bought the game and enjoyed playing. Heck, I be furious if that happened to me. I'd want my damn money back if I was only able to play the game for three months.

How Real-Time Worlds spent 50 million on APB is beyond me. Great concept, but just wasn't pulled off the way it should have been done. They released a half finished game.

[QUOTE="Vfanek"] I don't see why they want to salvage this wreck.. but hey, whatever floats their boat.

Just dropping it like that after only three months though is a dumb, dumb financial decision, (Typical of EA though). Instead of just burning away the millions and millions of dollars they sunk into it they should first try redoing the subscription program; make the game free, make the monthly play optional, and rely on micro-transactions and in game advertising. Personally I've never played the game nor know a whole lot about it but canning it after just 3 months regardless would be dumb for all parties. Sell it's rights and change up the structure.
