Looking for a large(ish) monitor to replace my dual 19" monitor set up. 27-30" seems like the sweet spot for my current set up. Does anyone have any experience with a set up like this and have anything to say (good or bad) about it?

UPDATE: I think i've narrowed it down to TWO

ASUS VS278Q-P

Notes: Price: $295. 80,000,000:1, 1ms response time, 60Hz

ASUS VG278HE
Notes: Price $450, 50,000,000:1. 2ms response time, 144Hz

Is the price difference really worth the extra 84Hz?

I'd get a 1440P resolution if you're going that big

If you're a twitch gamer, higher Hz is obviously better, a 144hz monitor would serve you good. If not a 1600p monitor would do you just fine assuming you have the specs to run games on that resolution.

Edit: Or a 2560x1440 120hz lol

I'd definitely need a new GPU for a higher res. currently I have a 4850 (build from 2008 lol). Core2quad q9300 @2.5ghz ( can OC a little bit but not too much) and 8gb ddr2. Will a GPU be bottle necked too much by the rest? Special note: I don't game TOO MUCH... Mainly want the monitor size for work, movies/tv.. Extent of my gaming right now is Dark Souls

I sit with my eyes three feet from a 26-incher and it looks great at 1920x1200. It fills enough of my field of vision to give good immersion.

i'm looking to upgrade from a 24 inch to a 27 inch because i have glaucoma and the monitor is 7 ft away from my bed (i'm sick, have injured back and am bedridden). i'm having trouble seeing my 24 inch monitor clearly and really i wish i could get a 32 inch tv that would work with both console and pc, but there aren't any with a fast enough response time and low enough input lag.

At seven feet, you want at least 32". Up to 60" would be good. More than that is overkill. Seven feet is pretty far, so I'd say size is the most important consideration. I think you'll be disappointed with the improvement you'll see with a monitor only three inches bigger than your present one and still too small.

Nexus 10 spoiled me, my monitor is 22" 1080p, 24" 1080p is the lowest pixel density I could handle now.

Cramming all le pixels on mobile devices is the best thing since slice bread. Now they need to crank out some mainstream 1440p+ for 24 inch than I'll be happy.

I can almost see pixels with 23 right now.

Yeah, nexus 10 has a 2560x1600 panel as well as all the other parts for £330, how come monitors with that res are still so rare and expensive?!

Don't see why, they can clearly be made in large quantities for not huge amounts of money.

If you're going $400+, buy a 1440p Korean monitor off Ebay.  Worth it if you ask me.

Not long back there was a slim-bezel Viewsonic on sale for $250.  Can't recall the model but it looked like a good monitor for that price.

Initial searches show that Korean panels are fitted with Korean outlet plugs and I would also need to purchase a converter plug to be able to use it in the states. Can anyone with this monitor confirm?
