They do nothing about private servers because they don't care. If a person is soo cheap that he would rather play a game that is full of bugs and incomplete then he most certainly wouldn't pay 15$ every month to play on official servers. + they get their money, they don't lose anything from anyone on private servers because they wouldn't pay anyway, but if they do play a lot on those servers and get fed up with all the bugs and missing content then they would (probably) start to pay 15$ just to play the full and bug free (mostly :P) game.

It will be kind of hard to play on private servers since the game has a 30gb installation, so if someone would want to play on private servers, they would need to buy the game anyway.

Oh and Dust, I agree with you, why not pay to play a game that is full of bugs and missing content, when you can pay 15$ per month for it?

Wasn't talking about AoC which I know is full of bugs now, I was talking about WoW because unlike AoC, WoW has private servers. WoW has many bugs but compared to private servers it's perfect in any possible way.

30Gb installation is not really a problem. Packed it's just 15Gb and with a good connection, it won't even take long to download it.

What Dust meant is that private servers are buggy.

Blizzard doesnt do anything about private servers because live and private servers are completely different experiences. WoW Live servers= -Over 20,000 characters and thousands online in 1 server. -VERY stable and very few minor bugs. They're up 24/7 except for Tuesday 8-2 which is maintenence hours. -HUGE community of thousands to play with or against, with many guilds ranging from casual to hardcore and low level to endgame guilds. And there's always a group for you to join every night whether 5-man or 25-man, you just gotta look hard. -Arena ranking. You can view your rank online along with everyone elses. The highest get to compete in LAN tournaments for thousands of dollars in addition to $3000 PCs as rewards. WoW Private servers= -Most private servers i've seen have 5-30 players online TOTAL. It's a joke. -Unstable servers. Every server has missing spells and abilities or missing dungeons or missing something else big. Also, the servers are offline like half the time anyway. I guess the little kid hosting has to go to bed or something i dont know really. And the servers are extremely laggy. Most good servers are from Europe and I live here in the USA so I get like 500ms ping which sucks. -Dont even think about getting a group together to do anything. The very few people online are either admins helping run the server OR are normal players that just wanna be left alone. I know a thing or two about WoW servers, i've played in them for nearly 3 years and 4,000 hours. I also know a thing or two about private servers, i've seen over 50 of them (if I say i joined them i'll get banned so NO).

The reason Blizzard doesn't do anything is simple: bad advertising. Imagine, you are watching the news and a story pops up that Blizzard has sued a company for owning a private server for WoW. The Private server is Free to Play as opposed to Blizzards 15 bucks a month deal. Anyone curious would do more research on the topic and find a private server and start playing it. And BANG he quits retail to play the F2P private server. 15 bucks a month lost to Blizzard. Imagine the bad advertising this would incur.

Oh, and btw, does AoC have a monthly fee? Just wondering, if it doesn't I don't see the need for private servers (except increased rates, which brings back another reason people might want to play a private server instead of a retail server)
