I can understand making an MMO pay to play but only when it's really an MMO. With APB it's practically paying to play a general third person action game with extra customization options and some amount of useless social interaction. From what I've heard the world is not free-roam and the gameplay looks to be like GTA 4 but running smoother and with no cover system. Someone enlighten me with information because I don't believe I have it all.

I agree, they said it was free to play then changed it up less than a month from release.

I think it's a good choice. Pay-to-play > micro-transactions.

Well I'm saying it shouldn't have either, its just general MP with social add-ons, it should just be bought like a normal game. Micro-transactions should have only been for things that did not effect the direct game-play, such as weapons or vehicles.

Agreed free games are actually more expensive unless you like getting owned badly by cash shop players. Will anyone ever try a yearly fee? :( I wouldn't mind paying $50 a year for an awesome online game.

That NEVER works out like it sounds like. They always give you 'minimal bonuses' that will let you roflstomp all people who are actually playing the game for free. Have you actually played a free game before? Look at MapleStory. When they started all you could buy were avatar items that change how you look. That didn't make enough money so they put a time limit on them and you had to rebuy your avatar items every 3 months. That also didn't work so they made it that avatar items granted you bonuses. Then they added non avatar items that helped you out a lot. Free to play = fanboy milking and free loaner kicking services.

Quality wise this game needs to be free to play because it's only a third person shooter period, it's no MMO it just has 100 players per server/district let's say for the sake of profits that there would be microtransactions.

Having a retail price with no further subscriptions would be an outrage for this trash and it has that + monthly subscriptions you can't be stupid enough to pay for this thing, but.....people actually bought the MW 2 DLC so...

If they ever get past 15K copies I'll give up on gaming.

Wow... if it's really that bad lets us see if they have even 15k subscribers in the next few months. :P

Is it really that bad, what's wrong with it?

Off topic a bit, but hearing about this game it amazes me that this is what the people who did Crackdown did next, and that Crackdown 2 is being done by someone else. (Crackdown being an old favorite of mine from the 360) Just blows me away that I have not heard one positive thing said about it, I guess I am saying.

It lacks in everything, gameplay, requirements are too high for how it looks. If an APB player never ever played once in his life games like GTA, Mafia, Saints Row then he will probably think that it...works....but I doubt people that played really good games, classics even would pay for this...thing, even more, subscribe to it. GTA SA has 500 player servers several, not just a few and that game is like what max 15$ nowadays? with no subscription and it's A LOT better than APB except graphics but I personally think that SA still looks and feels great.

Well, of course I would prefer it even more if its payment method is similar to Guild Wars. :P That however does not provide as much motivation for the developer to improve the finished game, and I doubt it will ever happen to another large MMO other than Guild Wars.

And getting no income from almost no subscribers tends to not motivate the developer too.

I wouldn't even play this if it was free to play :P I have to confess I thought my misgivings about this game were down to the fact I have never really enjoyed online games. I am in the Beta and after about 4 - 5 hours of it over a number of weeks I just gave up on it. It really is the dullest game I have ever come across, if you are expecting a GTA MMO then this game definitely will let you down big time.

Das is true. I was pretty interested when they said it was going to be free to play but then they pull this crap and lol hell no. It doesnt deserve to be bought at all. It doesnt even seem expansive enough to warrant a monthly payment. Id pay for WoW for example - even though I havent played for a few years now.

You guys are so picky, you dont have to buy it. It does run on their servers, so someone has to maintain them. If you don't like it enough, dont buy it.

Weather it "doesn't deserve to be Pay to Play" is relevant. Your paying to play on the servers which cost money simple as that.

Well I hope you are ready to uninstall all your games and throw out all your consoles. They can EASILY break 15k copies. Have you seen that it was one of the top sellers on steam for almost a month now right? I'm very positive that this game already broke the 15k mark actually..

It will be a complete and utter failure just like Crimecraft and Global Agenda before it. Just watch and see.

This game is gonna flop hard! Run up to a store or person etc etc and press action button, yay I just robbed something, now get into a car and drive like a retard(yer only retardo cause of the tremendously horrible car mechanics) tothe dot. Rinse repeat... the best money you've ever spent;)

This is one of those wait till all the reviews are out and that its stable. That one is way too much of a gamble for pre-order.

Funny you mentioned that since it's not on Steam, on Europe at least, where PC games really sell a lot, but I still find it hard to believe that it was in top for a month and it still doesn't say much since most top steam games don't really sell a lot now because most were released for quite a while and the new ones aren't breaking any records.

I still have hope....the PC community can't be that stupid to blindly buy this game without checking it out even for 5 minutes.

It is pay to play, but the system they are using is better than standard pay to play. Something like $15 gets you 50 hours of playtime? If it was me playing that's around 2 or 3 months of play which would cost $45 for any other MMO.

Also, I've played the beta quite a bit. While it does feel like an action game it also has distinctly MMO features.

Guys just wait for the game to come out, you'll see its's not worth playing even it was free. So don't get all riled up about their wierd pricing model just yet.

APB is a quite interesting game. It's kinda like GTA but brutally realistic, so you will get chopped down by anything that shoots. Driving isn't the greatest, but maybe it's caused by lag. But with all the flaws in APB, it has that special something in it that made WoW popular and fun to grind in. Also, co-op for about everything in this game makes it insanely fun with friends.

If only but..we have/had a beta....and yes you won't see the gameplay changed from the beta, not even alpha builds get changed much, beta is all about the bugs and a little optimization so that's pretty much a good representation of the final game.

One of my friends had played the beta, he was all super hyped up about the game like "THIS'LL BE AWESOME, I CANNOT MISS THIS BETA!" Only to end up being uninterested in the game overall. I don't think they had a real idea with this, they just thought it sounded cool but only really focused on customization and left the gameplay at standard.

I absolutely loved the beta and that the game wasn't going to have a monthly fee. But now that it does, I just can't do it. Subscription-games cost too much for me.

The game REALLY isn't as bad as people make it out to be. I logged about 40 hours in the beta, before they announced the pricing and I just quit. It isn't as deep as GTA games, but the interaction with all the other players made it a lot of fun. It was like playing story-missions, but you knew that everyone you were up against was another human. I thought it was pretty cool. The customization was pretty sweet too, if you took the time to get into it. There were a lot of easter-eggs and hidden places in the world to explore. I remember running around the rooftops of some pretty obscure places, or managing to get on top of random street lamps. It was fun.

Well, considering just a few shots can kill you in it, along with getting ran over is a insta-kill, it really feels like a hardcore game.

But those things would take you out of the game (even if they somehow didn't kill you) in real life. I don't see how it makes it any LESS realistic. :P

The lack of extra curricular activities will be the death of APB. It had great potential, but it just falls short of the mark.

How the game costed $50 million to develop is beyond me.

I'm not saying it's completely unrealistic, just saying that this game is not to be considered hardcore or realistic just because you take damage quickly. Though, when I think of a realistic game I think of something like Arma so I guess it depends on your view.
