according to this Nvidia and ATI may have staged competition in the last half decade and fixed prices and release dates.
If this is true, both companies just lost my trust in them completely.

You trusted them? Trust in companies is only a fake feeling they try to give you. And furthermore it doesnt surprise me that they could have been doing this, I mean look at the market. Its basicly only nvidia and ati. Theres no other competition. They could both fight each other till someone eventually dies or the costs are lowest possible, but why should they? If they work together they get more profit and they are sure the other company wouldnt introduce a new mindblowing graphic card that blows the other away for hundreds of dollars less. YES I KNOW, the 4870 and 50 are really cheaper and better when it comes down to price/performance but its their turn now, nvidia already had 2 victorious years with the 8800 series.

It is kinda strange how ATI just came out of nowhere with a series of cards that completely shuts down Nvidia's...even though Nvidia has been ahead the last 2-3 series of cards. Interesting.

But to be honest, this does not surprise me at all. Nvidia can't afford for ATI to go under because, technically then, they will be a monopoly. And then the government needs to step in and no company ever wants that.

It's not like this sort of business behavior is unorthodox. The GPU market is what we call an oligopoly and is one among many industries with similar circumstances. Either way you're going to purchase their graphics cards--no matter the final verdict--that is of course unless a new company comes to town, and even in that situation you could still have illegal business practices (which obviously defeats the purpose). But its not like they are offering us inferior products they are good! I find cases like this unproductive and meaningless because it artificially manipulates a capitalistic marketplace in an attempt to prevent what it inevitably brings, monopolies. Instead of concentrating on developing new technologies, now Advanced Micro Devices and Nvidia have to worry about saving their skins, consequentially raising GPU prices in the process...not like they're high enough already.

I really don't know what the Justice Department's solution to the case would be if they indeed won. They will probably do the usual and just order a split up of the companies that will probably be reacquired in the future anyway. Just look at how well the AT&T split up went, all the "baby bells" have just merged back together. So now the major carriers are AT&T, Verizon, and Qwest. Just imagine the U.S. government starting a firm to take Advanced Micro and Nvidia head on

I guess I got so caught up with the arms race of technology that I forgot that the primary objective it make money, and not the creation of new technology for the greater good, I guess we are all delusional sometimes, good to be reminded what really all this is about.

Lol, thats the beauty of capitalism. It makes people money, and influences people to make a better product/technology.
