No its a still a small part of the market. Macs are what based off that 10 percent of the market. Worth it for some companies but for most no. Even then what percent of that has any interest in gaming, plus the hardware in most macs is pretty mid to low end. Unless your dropping several grand
[quote="Mashable"]Apple has surged past Acer and Toshiba to become the third largest PC vendor in the U.S. with a 10.7% market share, the latest data from Gartner suggests. In Q2 2011, Apple has experienced a solid 8.5% year-over-year growth in the U.S. market; Toshiba grew 3.3%, and Acer fell 22.6% in that same period. The top of the chart is still dominated by Dell with a 22.6% market share and HP, which holds 26.9% of the PC market.Hexagon_777The above is only an excerpt. You can find the full article here. What do you think of this? Will this encourage the development of more games for Mac OS X? I suppose this isn't good news for many of you as you love the PC for being such an open platform whereas Macs are the polar opposite, right?
correction hexagon mac doesnt make pc's windows linux n unix are pc's. mac is all by itself now
It's kind of misleading. That's individual company market share, but if you look at platform market share it's very different. Windows is probably 85%, Mac 10%, Linux 5% (or less). I mean just add Dell, HP, Acer, Toshiba and it's way more than the 10% Apple has. I don't see any threat to PC gaming yet. As long as Apple doesn't do games very well there is always going to be demand for some non-Mac PC.
Apple is a fad...........I own a MacBook, but most people buy it because they think it's the cool thing nowdays.bblundellpc still rocks

It's still only a 10.7% market share. I doubt we'll see a lot of Mac game development. We will probably see an increase in PC Games ported to the Mac, especially now that both STEAM and Direct2Drive have started to sell Mac games. However as the market stand, Mac is a long long way from being any threat to the PC Gaming market.
On top of that Mac's do have the option of running Windows so there'd be very little reason for any developer to pick Mac over Windows as a development platform.

lol the thing that gets me is how a lot of people who own macs (mainly the younger college students) will say they don't buy pc's because microsoft is a greedy coperation, but they don't see how apple releasing a new ipod, ipad, and iphone every year with very little changes is any different lol.
I'd have no issue with Apples if they weren't so outrageously overpriced. They've got great build quality and have a polished OS, but some cost nearly twice as much as similarly equipped PCs. That's ridiculous. If you ask me, there's 3 things that sell Apples. One is the "cool" factor, especially for students. The second is because they're "pretty." I kid you not, many girls want a Macbook solely for this reason. Third, and probably a major one, is bad experiences with cheap PCs. People go out and buy a crappy $400 laptop, totally hate it, go out and spend $1000+ on a Mac, and then exclaim that their old PC was junk, and that Macs are so much better. Well, you spent over twice as much on the Mac as you did on the PC, what did you expect? I also find it disappointing that Asus is mixed with the rest in the "Others" list. They deserve to have a much higher marketshare than they currently have.dk00111
Definitely this. You see this heaps. People compare Macs to their old bargin bin Dell.
I know people turn to Apple for looks, but I don't understand why. Macs look sleek, yes, but nothing else. You can easily find a Windows PC that looks much better than anything from Apple. And, it won't look the same as every other hipster's Mac.
I'm pretty sure my sister's pink Toshiba is prettier than anything Apple have.:P

[QUOTE="CuRle_"]hipster ***? Arent you so cool and mature? Yes, hipsters. Got a problem with reality? Apple computers are a status thing (ironically, to those who aren't 14 years old, they will make you look ridiculous). There is no legitimate reason to buy a Mac.I guess a growth in Apple is to be expected, everyone wants to look like a hipster***, these days.

yep mac computers are a fashion accessory not a real computing tool. my copy of fedora has more talent in its root folder than an entire mac os
