Linkanother link This is.. ridiculous. $250 for 100MHz? $200 for 4gb of RAM? Even the 13 inch costs over $1000.. and that's with integrated graphics and a 320gb HDD.. Why, Apple? WHY? And these things will still sell like crazy. :(

I still haven't brought anything from Apple since, well, ever, and I'm not going to start now.

Pretty sad though, you can get 8GB RAM for far less than that.

Apple overcharge because they can. Their customers are mostly suckers, hippies, and computer illiterates.

My wife got a MacBook Pro 3-4 years ago. After they moved to Intel DuoCore2 chips, 4GB of memory (I don't remember the GPU in it, something roughly on par with a 9600GT), 500GB HDD 7200RPM, 17" screen.... Basically, it was the top end model they had available, after taxes it was almost $3K. I laughed at the price....a lot....but thankfully the laptop was a gift for all the graphic design work she did for my older brother. They are overpriced, by a long shot. The laptop works great still, does all she needs. I even picked her up a backup external HDD so all her info is saved.

I was once forced to use a mac to access the internet on a hotel in berlin during an excessive heatwave last summer. The hotel staff is still in the mental hospital :)

Both are idiotic PC choices if all you want to do is play WoW and other basic stuff. They are decoration first and PC second imo. At least the iMac has a good screen though..

Yes, let's cherry-pick among PC's to find an under-powered Sony computer that is worse than the $2000 iMac. And while we're at it let's ignore all the other cheaper methods of getting more powerful prebuilts that you can upgrade.

Ok. If you really think Macs (iMacs in particular) are overpriced:

iMac

2.8GHz Intel Core i5

2560-by-1440 resolution

4GB (two 2GB) memory

1TB hard drive

ATI Radeon HD 5750

$1999.00

Desktop:

DVD burner: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827135204

If he did purchase the 2grand iMac:

1. 2560x1440 is higher than 1080p

2. The two builds use roughly the same parts and come out at roughly the same price...

some people enjoy getting 10 hours of battery life out of their computer, they also enjoy the simple design of OSX, without the extra background tasks of windows. Not encouraging mac use here (PC all the way) but there are SOME reasons here and there for the price difference.

you're not really paying that premium for the performance but for its design and real life durability. modern laptops have caught up but it still doesn't compare with the dominating apple brand

MAC:

$12,598.00

Two 2.93GHz 6-Core Intel Xeon "Westmere" (12 cores)
12GB (6X2GB)
Mac Pro RAID Card
512GB solid-state drive
512GB solid-state drive
512GB solid-state drive
ATI Radeon HD 5870 1GB
One 18x SuperDrive
Apple LED Cinema Display (27" flat panel)

PC:

4 * HD 5870 XFX --> $800

12 gb patriot ram --> $135 (Apple didn't specify

EVGA ified SR-2 (MUCH better motherboard than the Mac uses)--> $549

2 * Intel XEON Westmere 6 Core CPUs --> $2032

Rosewill fulltower case --> $150 (Much better than any Apple case anyways)

Antec 1200w PSU --> $199 (leaps and bounds better than the Apple puts in their PCs)

3 * Kingston 512gb SSDs --> $3600

Dell U2711 --> $964 (Much better than Apple's cinema display, best monitor on the market)

Total price: $8429, same CPU power, siginificantly better motherboard, more or less same ram, SSDs should be the same, TWICE the graphical power (in theory), +/- same CPU power, vastly superior PSU, much better S-IPS monitor, better case.

Problem ? ;)

And your point? Who would buy a an IPS monitor and then get a 5770? a single HD 5870 hardly does that justice, let alone a half as powerful 5770.

The iMac's monitor is a 27" IPS. Those things just happen to cost nearly a grand in general.

And your point? Who would buy a an IPS monitor and then get a 5770? a single HD 5870 hardly does that justice, let alone a half as powerful 5770.

People who like their monitor to not suck, like me. I've been using IPS panels since the 2001FP. The monitor's one of the few parts of my PC I'm using basically 100% of the time I'm using it, unlike... say, my graphics card.
