I recently bought bioshock and happily installed it and played for a couple then i quit the game. After a few minutes i tried to go back into the game but suddenly i get this error message (this is an exact quote begining with the title):

Bioshock: Bioshock.exe - application error

The instructions at "0x10cab482" referenced memory at "0x00000000".

The memory could not be "read".

the message appears straight after starting the game before the main menu even starts up i tried everything i installed the latest drivers re-installed directx and c++ redistriutable i have the latest bios. I even tried swaping my RAM and defraging plus an error check on my drive.however when i started Regsweep(a registry fixer)the same error appears after a few minutes (only it says regsweep instead of bioshock) did anyone ever encountered this error before and knows how to fix it?

p.s

i tried reinstalling the game

Have you recently installed new RAM?

If you can remember back the game Noctourne. It did the same thing. I came to find out that it was bad memory, but that could be a freakish coincedent...

That sucks regardless.

I don't want to snap back at your comment, but to assume it's not broken since it's "brand new" is silly. There are manufacturing flaws all the time that cause things to break soon after continuous use.

Heck, I just had to swap out a brand new iMac b/c something went wrong two weeks after I got it. It happens...

There are utilities that will continuously write/read to RAM to make sure that every memory location is correct. Not sure what it is since I've never needed it myself. You might want to ask in the PC Hardware forum or hit Google.

well after running gold memory it says that there is an error in my memory(not sure what kind though) however if someone had a fix for a problem similiar to this or the exact same please post it here it could still be a software problem.
